About this deal

This substantially revised and expanded edition has new chapters, details of 'clusters' of sites easily accessible from particular holiday or population centres, additional information on access for the car-bound or disabled, as well as numerous examples of recent occurrences and significant status changes. Birds eat different things: try seeds for sparrows and finches, fat balls for tits, and fruit and worms for thrushes and robins. Terns, gulls and wading birds descend to breed on the islands in spring and summer, while thousands of waders and brent geese migrate from the Arctic to feed and roost in safety here. I feel so grateful that I found HOS and the friendly, genuine people that attend the walks programme. The oak and birch trees look remarkable scattered across the area, but many of the birds that arrive here are ground-nesting and use the heather for cover.

Brook Meadow is a lovely wet meadow in Emsworth, a small town in the south east corner of Hampshire in the UK. The RSPB reserve occupies one third of Langstone Harbour - a muddy estuary that attracts large numbers of birds all year round. The study was designed to locate important areas for waterfowl and seabirds breeding and visiting the area. This new 12-panel fold-out chart features some of the special animals and plants for which this area is justly famous. NOTE: There are two Beacon Hills in Hampshire, this is the one near Warnford, not the one near Burghclere).

This site is a coastal grazing marsh and lagoon which has several pools, both freshwater and brackish, and a broad stream which provide feeding and roosting sites for waders and wildfowl. It is a popular route for horseback riding, running and mountain biking, though cyclists should keep an eye out for horses and ramblers. Oystercatchers also roam the waters, and are rather penguin-like in their colouring, and actually eat more cockles and mussels than they do oysters. Last updated 2014 - A community web site dedicated to the observation, recording and protection of the wildlife of the Emsworth area. C3 Naturalized re-established species – species with populations successfully re-established by Man in areas of former occurrence, e.Owned by Hampshire County Council since 1972, Titchfield Haven opened as a nature reserve in 1976 and gained the status of a National Nature Reserve in 1995. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. This tranquil heathland is home to some very special wildlife such as nightjars, tree pipits, woodlarks and silver-studded blue butterflies.

Chichester Harbour Conservancy is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty comprising 11sq miles of water and 11sq miles of land with 17 miles of well marked and lighted channels which, with its easy access to the Solent, makes it an ideal water recreation centre. Public information for Sensitive Species is restricted due to potential harmful impact to these birds. This is a circular walk from the Beacon Hill National Nature Reserve on the South Downs, near Warnford in Hampshire. I might add that birds in Iceland are very approachable so our view of "wild swans" is a little skewed as we rarely see them close up.

When I first started trying I was pretty poor and although I’ve improved over the years it’s never easy and sometimes you can get a little dispirited especially when you compare yourself to people like those mentioned above. RSPB local groups are a great way to meet friendly, like-minded people in your area while learning more about birds and wildlife. Species include the colourful firecrest, the shy hawfinch, the UK’s only endemic bird the crossbill, and treecreepers. Provisional: Either: 1) member of exotic population that is breeding in the wild, self-propagating, and has persisted for multiple years, but not yet Naturalized; 2) rarity of uncertain provenance, with natural vagrancy or captive provenance both considered plausible. The Langstone Hotel is located just 8 miles from Portsmouth, outside of Havant on the northern shore of Hayling Island.
