Built with eco-conscious users in mind, last year's Acer Aspire Vero proved to be a capable green machine. In addition, I think Acer has the display brightness icons backwards on the F3 and F4 keys and for no apparent reason. The Aspire Vero features everything you'd expect of a premium laptop, with a 13th gen Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, 1TB storage and a 15. For the record, the battery rundown test was conducted in Eco mode while the performance tests were all run in Performance mode. You can manipulate battery-saving settings in the Verosense app, which could lead to some extra battery time. Sturdy keycaps provide comfortable feedback, with a standard row of system-setting shortcuts at the top. I’m pretty much a touch typist so don’t glance at the keys with any great frequency, but I still find it distracting.If you’ve been following along, then it will come as no surprise when I tell you that the HP Envy x360 completed our HandBrake test in the shortest amount of time with the Aspire Vero finishing second. Sure — that’s good and also true of plenty of other Acer laptops, including the Swift 3 and the Nitro 5. Its casing is 30% PCR, the rest presumably ‘virgin’ plastics that give Acer more control over the strength of the plastic and its finish. Instead, the Vero is grey, with a flecked yellow pattern that’s reminiscent of cardboard or concrete. Acer’s environmentally conscious laptop feels solid, sounds great, and offers decent if unremarkable performance.
