About this deal

Dividers can also be removed during the winter to unite the colony and reintroduced the following season. Our box not only acts as a single 6 frame nuc, it can also double up as a 2-way mating nuc with the unique divider insert and separate coloured entrances located on each side of the box. It might take a few days for the bees to get the message that we want the queen to lay in the 14 x 12's but after a week or so there should be eggs and small larvae in the 14 x 12 frames. ensure you have enough space for the footprint of the building, as well as room for any overhangs, and space to carry out maintenance work, and for air flow round the sides.

Our new feeder design also features a removable plug, which can provide access to fondant placed inside the feeder. Some of our sheds may require guttering due to the large amount of water falling to the rear panel that may cause water to soak into the unit. I'm wondering if life might be easier to switch from double brood to 14x12 because of the reduced work when inspecting and I'm not really completely convinced that my colonies really need the volume of a double brood box. There may be an additional carriage charge for some heavy and bulky items to Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and islands, Isle of Man and off-shore islands. Please do not expect 100% blemish free from a product of this nature, whilst we strive to give you the highest quality product available to achieve 100% perfect product in EPS would mean high wastage.Yes, put the 14 x 12 box on top of the National brood box (no queen excluder) and feed to encourage the bees to draw out the foundation.

I wouldn't put the national brood over the 14x12 and QE though as there is a good chance they will then use it as a super and start filling it with nectar, which is ok if you want to use it as a super. There was a long piece in a BBKA magazine 2 or 3 years ago extolling the virtues of brood and a half. All in all I am happy with my decision and will continue down the 14 x 12 route I am even using them on some converted Smiths hives and find the shorter lugs no problem at all.We are a team of passionate beekeepers supplying beginner beekeepers and fellow bee farmers across the nation.

and then when the queen is in there and laying and a good percentage of the frames are drawn out and have brood in swap the boxes round so the national brood is on top and stick a queen excluder in between. The cladding on this shed is Dip Treated 16mm (planed to 12mm finish) specially designed rebated shiplap. The most common flaw is a slight blue tinge which is a natural colouration sometimes appearing during the drying process whilst some others may have a small knot in the underside of the frame bar. Bees will generally build comb where you don't want it - under the deep frames - and you still have to get rid of them at some time which is why I would prefer to get the job done early as a Baily comb exchange rather than have shallower frames in the hive for some time. The cladding on this shed is Pressure Treated (Tanalised) 25mm (planed to to a 20mm finish) specially designed rebated shiplap. The benefits of the shed being fully pressure-treated means it is protected against decay, rot, and pest damage for years.
