About this deal

To perform well on the 11+ Vocabulary Exam, regular practice of 11+ vocabulary test papers is necessary.

One of the key reasons that children benefit from reading classic books in preparation for their 11 Plus exam is that they will encounter vocabulary that they may not otherwise encounter. Sometimes finding a book related to something they’ve recently watched on TV or a film can be a good entry into it.Our recommended course it The Complete Vocabulary Course as it helps build up your child’s skills over time with constant revision, however, there is a shorter Vocabulary Enhance Course and even shorter Vocabulary Boost Course if you have less time. This helps to broaden their language and allows them to have a record of new words that they have learnt.

Using oral and written techniques, encourage your child to put the word into a sentence to confirm their understanding. An expert 11+ tutor can help to build their confidence with English and challenge them with tailored learning content and advice. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. With timely videos, photos, sentences, and fun facts, KidSmart helps your child to understand and retain such words quickly. The two games we’d recommend are either Boggleor Scrabbleor ideally both- Boggle is useful when you have a short period of time, Scrabble is useful when you have longer. It is one of the only learning apps that we have come across that is based strongly in knowledge rather than having the game as the main draw and it's exactly what we need as the children move up through Primary School.

Created by The United Nations World Food Programme, not only can your child polish their vocabulary skills, but they can also make a difference. KidSmart uses flashcards to counteract the mind's natural preference to learn through using connections, thus focus on the meaning of a word. They will also need to analyse a variety of texts including poetry, play scripts, descriptive and narrative texts. Your child will, therefore, need to have a diverse vocabulary to draw on for each aspect of their English exam. You can sit down and work through the book cover to cover, but lots of the exercises can be done verbally, allowing you to vary teaching methods.

In addition, there are some English exercise books which are particularly useful for helping to develop a wide vocabulary. The book's main aim is to give a solid ground for passing 11 +, it's like a giant check list, basic but covers all the necessary areas. The flash cards also come with a metal sorting ring, allowing learners to carry them around and study on the go.

You could print out the list and use it as part of a display or use it to track how many words they've learnt so far. To improve your child’s 11 Plus vocabulary, it’s essential to blend consistent practice with diverse reading habits. It would be possible to list many thousands of words but the selection below showcases the kind of unusual language your child might encounter.

We deliver all our courses to be printed out and completed on paper, they are not designed to be used on an electronic device of any sort. As with all exams, starting preparation and revision as early as possible is an excellent way to get your child ready for their 11 Plus.
