For me the book is sweet and has an excellent exercise in night time illustration from the glowing stars to the black but not quite images without starlight. Mole finds the wishing star and sets about putting the stars back with the help of the other animals so they can all enjoy the magical star light together. He enjoys the stars until he realises other creatures like deer, mouse, bear, fox and owl are all in darkness and miss the stars at night.The dazzling speed with which it forages therefore counterbalances the low nutritional value of each individual piece of food and maximizes the time available for finding more. He loves them so much that when a falling star gives him an opportunity to make a wish, he wishes for the stars.
