Traded it for a Concrete cover with Geof — who is, incidentally, conversationally brilliant, self-deprecatingly funny, and a mesmerizing storyteller in person. I apologize for the huge list, but let’s consider some of these movies (and I haven’t seen all of them, so I’m not going to go into too much detail). I’ve always thought that but it’s reassuring to see that he been operating at that level for almost three decades. This is the first time I've ever read it actually, although I was aware that it was a thing that existed in the world before. Daredevil owes much to Eisner, Spillane, O’Neil and others, as Miller trotted out his influences, Sure, all comics people do that; but, that is part of the reason why, though I enjoyed a good portion of his work, I didn’t worship the ground Miller walked, any more than Tarrantino.

The detail is incredible and the gore and destruction is all treated with great care, which in itself is a bizarre thought to have. But it has some amazing (and at the same time horrific, be warned) intricate art work by Geoff Darrow, which Chad correctly identifies with the maddening Where's Waldo? I am tempted to check out in 2023 another series by the same artist, even as I am aware that it is just as violent, if not even worse, than this one : Shaolin Cowboy , purely for the pleasure of poring over more of Darrow’s artwork.UPDATE: Deadline hears that while all the deals have to be made on Hard Boiled, Warner Bros is looking for Ben Wheatley to develop the action film as a potential vehicle for The Avengers and The Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston. It’s a musical thing – melodies and rhythms that push the narrative against the pull of the heavy visual bludgeoning. Why is Miller and Darrow’s harrowing vision of sex and violence any worse than, say, the Hellfire Club women dressing up in dominatrix gear? There are probably colorists out there who would have tried to match wits with Darrow’s more-is-more approach with a wild and frenzied palette, but Dave Stewart hasn’t won nine Eisners by being foolish.
