About this deal

Also I wasn’t expecting any of them to be different colours and have stuff attached on their bodies but I ate that up bc Rip having thorns? When a power move yields results that will increase the king's domain for the first time in years Auren is once again allowed access to the outside world.

She eventually fights back when yet another person wanted to rape her, you'd think that she's finally free but instead the book ends with her being captured by the enemy of King Midas. Because that was the only thing in my mind when I read the first few chapters from this book, it got me guessing what will be Auren's fate soon, which Kingdom will Rip come from, what identity will he has, is he going to be more vicious than Midas, and etc cetera. It also has potential for great character growth and more world-building as we will (hopefully) get to discover more about the other kingdoms. I felt no connection to her and spent the majority of the book hating every stupid thing that came out of her mouth. This book was difficult to enjoy because I kept hoping for a reprieve for the heroine and there was none to be had. Overall this is one of the best series I have read so far with an interesting take on the king Midas story. So it’s a fantasy series that has taken its inspiration from King Midas I’ll admit I’m only vaguely aware of the Greek tale just the main facts and that it’s an Aesop fable with a hidden message regarding greed and him turning everything to gold but i was intrigued. I struggle with cheating and men that put women into a bubble, but this book was 100% worth the read.

No, she simply wants to be one of his coveted 'saddles - the word for whores apparently - and join in the rest of the sordid fun because she loooves him! You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Would really recommend this for people who like a weird fairytale retelling with quiet, resilient protagonist. Raven Kennedy is a tea and dark chocolate kind of girl and can often be found binge-watching The Office or The Great British Baking Show.

I felt really frustrated despite the fact she was controlled, that she was determined to always go back to king Midas despite his poor treatment and controlling behaviour. Locked away in a castle on the snowy mountains in the Sixth Kingdom of Orea, I have never known freedom. The conclusion is this book was one of my most wanted books this year, and it didn't disappoint one bit. Spoilers start below ⚠️I also liked that in this retelling, Midas ended up not being the one with the gilding touch at all.
