About this deal

The flashing glow plug light almost always means brake light switch problems on most diesel VAG cars, so it seems weird that the glow plugs themselves were changed. It can also datalog sensor outputs and recode the various modules (central convenience unit etc) on the car. This will identify the fault codes (DTC's - Diagnostic Trouble Codes) that are present within the various ECU's. OP - First off check the Ground point on the drivers side strut tower, then take a good look round the loom for chafe points, with the engine running and the light off, get some one to watch it and give the loom and the plugs the "wiggle test" - which should be self explanatory, hopefully some part of it will cause the failure.

I'm sure that someone with more experience than me (I'm still learning everyday) will be along soon to assist further. The flashing glowplug light is, quite commonly, an indicator of a brake light or brake switch problem. Ironic in light of the EGR being a key component in keeping emissions down and the cheat software thing! Just trying to be helpful as there may be members close to you with VCDS, but without this info it's just guesswork. You should just be able to do it with a voltmeter (available cheaply if you haven't got one and useful for all sorts of stuff) hooked up as shown in the diagram. com accepts no responsibility for forum content and requires forum participants to adhere to the rules. There is also a sensor on the crankshaft, but I gather if this goes wrong the car will refuse to start regardless of whether it is warm or cold. Plus, continued cranking would eventually work if a leak was the problem - fuel would get there eventually - I presume.

There is a bolt on the left hand side as you look at the FF ***embly, it goes in horizontally and i think you can bleed it from there, but not sure its actually a bleed screw, but the only one I could see and when you loosen it, fuel comes out so make sure you have primed it first as you dont want air getting in!I know that the dealers get a good kick-in but for the record i have been here twice now, and the service has been exceptional. The switch can be failing intermittently, a VCDS scan should indicate the cause and my money is on the brake light switch! A scan revealed a fault with the crank position sensor - which the mechanic attributed to its proximity to the deteriorating flywheel - which had also failed (different thread). The faults stay in memory and the symbol flashes, even if there is nothing wrong, once a fault is there like that it needs to be cleared. I`ve just spoken to the friend who did the job and he`s going to stick his code reader on it and get a more accurate diagnosis.
