With a message about trying different things, being open to failure and success but mostly about finding out who you are and what you like to do, this is a book I’m delighted to read to the bairns over and over again. Their mother/daughter relationship is fascinating, actually, because Beauty is brainier than her mother.OK, there is a peek at some of my favorite photos from the book…there are honestly so many more but I don’t think the page could handle much more!

I so wish we’d had the foresight to hang on to that book, since I can’t remember any of the other cookies and it’s no longer available.The best thing about this book is that it is not just Beauty that grows as a character - her mother grows too. There is also a specially-developed selection of cookies suitable for people with special dietary requirements, such as Very Low-fat Brownies and Gluten-free Cashew Nut Button Cookies; and a fantastic fun section of special cookies for kids, including Jammie Bodgers, Marshmallow Toasties, Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies and Ice Cream Sandwiches. This book got me into reading I absolutely LOVED it I always had it with me in fear of never reading a better book I've always felt that the ending needed a bit more closure that's why its not 5 stars. At the school she makes friends and is nicknamed the Cookie Girl, but she still keeps in touch with Rhona by writing letters. I believe my favorite cookie in there was an oatmeal raisin cookie, which involved soaking the raisins (in water, not rum or something interesting :-).

Lotta Nieminen is an illustrator, graphic designer, and art director from Helsinki, Finland, now running her own NYC-based studio. I liked that the show proved to be so important to the plot, as I thought at first it was just an odd little quirk of Beauty's. As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her! I received my copy of your book in the mail today, and I am so inspired to make some cookies this weekend.

So our house is packed full of picture books for my two children: BookBairn and The Wee Page Turner. And when I read the description, well, it kind of resonated with me, my mother was a total control freak, and Beauty felt like, well, me.

I may also still have a copy of mine somewhere in my parents house, but if not, I’m going to try to track down a used copy. I didn't think badly of her books, but I wasn't really interested in them, I thought I'd read it all before. Beauty with her gentle nature, and her mother - essentially that stupid "babe" that people laugh at usually - but a wonderful warm mother, her father, another deliciously evil villain character complicated by the fact that he is her father, and he does love her, albeit in his twisted way. The condition of the book was far better than I expected, I'd go so far as to say the condition was as new. Each recipe becomes a new favorite, and her candid dialogue in each recipe brings her in the kitchen to guide the baking process. Just before summer, Beauty is sent to a new school which she is adamant against at first, until she eventually agrees.
