Just a little heat on the end but this is a very convincing sign that Cockburn is back on form, even if it may not be one of the longest living.

In 1969, with the launch of the Special Reserve, the company successfully planted the previously ignored Touriga Nacional in large numbers. Cockburn's Special Reserve is a very fine wine selected for its richness and concentration, from the finest vineyards in the Upper Douro and matured in oak casks for five years. Acquired in 1962 by a multinational, the emphasis shifted away from Vintage Port, but following the Symington family’s acquisition of Cockburn’s in 2010, the company focus was shifted back to one thing: the quality of the wine. Cockburn’s style is clearly Douro Superior, combining the elegance which is typical of its Vale Coelho vineyard and the intensity and power of Quinta dos Canais, Cockburn’s flagship property. Cockburn's Special Reserve Port is a rich and full-bodied fortified wine that is aged for up to five years in oak barrels. We recommend that you do not rely solely on the information presented here and that you always read labels, warnings, and directions before using or consuming a product. Special Reserve: When it was launched in 1969, the Cockburn’s Special Reserve was the bridge between vintage ports and new ports.
