About this deal

And like, if that's your jam that's your jam whatever, but I'm going to need some actual plot and/or character development or communication or talking. I get it, yes, expectations should be set but also I feel like this could've been discussed in a more tactful way? Soccer was a main character—which I’m not complaining about since it’s literally obvious from the cover, title, and summary lol—it’s just on me for overestimating my potential interest in reading about it. You always know where Phoebe is because it is hard to miss all the red hair or her loud voice laughing as she plays. In the beginning of the book I was feeling a bit confused and overwhelmed by how many side characters there were, I found it difficult to remember who was who.

She is also starting to get a little tired of all of the uproar, and when not playing prefers to spend her time on the front porch of her house, alone, except for her cat. Phoebe Matthews has always admired Grace's skill and was starstruck to be training alongside her idol. Phoebe is everything Grace isn’t – a gregarious jokester who plays with a joy that Grace has lost somewhere along the way. Phoebe and Grace both present as neurodivergent, but when the topics are talked about, Phoebe reacts with anger and a seemingly internalized stigma against neurodivergence/ADHD. This is Wilsner's third adult romance novel and it is another of theirs that I will be recommending until the cows come home. Both did a great job portraying a twenty-something female with changing emotions and career concerns. But as the sparks between them start to ignite, will both players realise they care more about their relationship than making the roster? After reading this book, I still don’t understand training camps, nationals, training and… stuff, though I feel like I should have picked something up while reading this. I know people generally dislike miscommunication as a way to create conflict but I think Wilsner is doing something a little more interesting and complicated here.

Surprisingly, she was selected the number one draft pick of the New Orleans club team, and if that alone wasn’t enough, she has just been invited to practice with the US national team. While there is some tension with keeping their relationship a secret from their teammates it never really feels deceptive or taboo.By the end though, the characters had won me over and I was fully behind their new-found open communication and expression of tenderness. I am a HUGE women's soccer fan and love a good sports romance, so my excitement for this sapphic romance was SO HIGH. I did like this book, especially that it has a lot of intimacy scenes, but for me it was definitely lacking emotion. Phoebe is the newbie on the national team and a professional team and has idolized (and had a crush on) Grace for years. Mistakes Were Made felt like the polar opposite - the story starts with a recently divorced woman having a one night stand with what is later revealed to be her daughter’s college roommate.
