About this deal

Citrus peelings have gotten a bad rap in composting due in part to the fact that it can take a long time for the peels to break down. A wormery is a closed system entirely reliant on the worms to work: if it becomes too acidic the worms will die, and the contents will sit and stagnate. We’ll discuss these and other benefits further down, as well as teach you the correct methods for composting citrus.

The composting process is aerobic, which is almost odorless when compared to anaerobic composting solutions. Westland Citrus Potting Mix contains unique Seramis granules for optimum water and nutrient availability. All you need to apply is to have a debit or credit card, to be over 18 years of age, and to be a UK resident. Fill in around the edges with more Citrus Potting Mix ensuring the top feeder roots are covered with 2cm of fresh potting mix. I make orange juice for the family every day, and it seems a pity not to reuse the rind in the garden. Place a layer of potting mix in the bottom of the new pot, and gently tap the old plant from its pot. The added SERAMIS granules do a fantastic job at regulating the plants water intake to ensure optimum water and nutrient availability.

Some of our products will be shipped directly from suppliers and so might have slightly different timescales. I chucked a load of citrus in my compost, then wondered if it was okay…but didn’t feel tempted by the idea of diving in it to root it back out! Fortified with iron which is a mineral nutrient that is absorbed by roots and the result is that the leaves become greener. Looking to up your composting game by adding citrus, but aren't sure if it's the safe or effective thing to do? The worms are helpful to composting, but are not essential to the process, thus they are free to leave should they find conditions not to their liking, as long as the heap is sited over bare earth.

With regard to worms, it should be said that citrus shouldn’t be used in wormeries, because too much acidity will cause the worms to die. Our worm farms, with their range of accessories, can be used in any size of space, from balconies to small courtyards.
