About this deal

It also shouldn’t be too surprising that it renders noticeably different than the CineStill 800T Recipe above. If you want to achieve a softer look with the skin tones, you can use the lower strength filter – and it should be good to go. This wasn’t an attempt to mimic any specific movie or emulsion, but just achieve a general filmic look through cellphone photography—make it seem less digital and more analog-like, except without all of the editing that is traditionally required. Whether using it on daytime for backlit scenes or during nighttime to enhance the halos of city lights and car lights it works very well if you like that style. The filter’s ring is made from aerospace-grade metal, designed to be thin enough to stack underneath other filters without affecting the field of view.

If you re-watch some of the older movies, you will easily see that dreamy glowy effect – especially with those movies that were based on some form of magic. It is, however, early in the game and I will be testing this over a longer period of time but already feel it will have more longevity. A diffusion filter gives halation with lights, creating a neutral “glow” around points of light, especially in low light scenarios. My current project is a documentary featuring a diverse group of plus size women and the filter creates a very subtle, but very smooth effect on the skin.

I can’t find any source about the Moment Cinebloom on film cameras, so I decided to explain it here. If you have started diving into the creative field, you might already know that having a good lighting setup is extremely important to achieve a great resulting image. The first frame is captured without the filter and the second with the 10% CineBloom diffusion filter.

But now, you don’t need to do all that, as having a diffusion filter will easily get it done for you. There are likely better options, and perhaps different choices that would be better for you, so keep that in mind.

First, if you don’t already, be sure to follow Fuji X Weekly and Moment on Instagram ( here and here). The construction is excellent and can be seen immediately from the layer applied to the surface which is a professional tool. I think the only disadvantage is that the lens cap fits a little loosely over the adapter, but probably fits snugly on the Fujifilm option (just guessing). There is a version for X-Trans III cameras plus the X-T3 and X-T30, and a version for X-Trans II models.

The aim of these filters are to get an organic, dreamy, almost cinematic effect in photography and video production. I noticed no image resolution degradation, no white balance issues, no vignetting or distortion when the filter was on. The current crop of cameras / lenses is way too resolving for most portraiture, which is why we are finding ways of dealing with this on the shoot or in post. They help to remove some of the digital crispness to create a film-like appearance, which is the look I’m going for.

As a mother of four and behind-the-scenes Fuji X Weekly cohort, Amanda is quite busy, and doesn’t have time for extensive editing, so post-processing pictures could not be a prerequisite for achieving a filmic aesthetic. So my thoughts are that if it’s your first time hearing about these kinds of filters, it can be interesting to consider.

The sample images in this review can be viewed up to 2500 pixels wide, depending on your monitor size. When I apply my Aged presets on top of this, I achieve a look that is incredibly close to a film-like appearance. It’s nice to have, looks well made and o love that I can apply to a lens and still be able to use the lens cover over the filter when not in use. Imported Japanese AGC optical glass with double-side polishing technology ensures high definite image quality. I felt that this filter would be a key component to achieving a filmic look, and the Sandmarc case with the Step Up Ring Filter Mount plus the 40.

The diffusion filters are designed to take the edge off the typical look created by digital sensors, soften the transition of light sources, and also smoothen skin tones for portraits. I think Philim Bloom has really nice comparison which shows the Moment filters and many more, I think they are really good. If you purchase it now, or any of our other tutorials, you can save a 15% by using " ARTICLE" at checkout. It doesn’t matter if you are a photographer or a videographer, as having a diffusion filter can help you achieve a dreamy look in both fields.
