About this deal

One of my earliest Patch Projects was to set up an Eddie Van Halen style patch - using the CE-1 Chorus, Flanger, and Script Phaser (FX1-FX3], as well as the Guv'nor / GUV DS Distortion voicing as the main flavour of drive. The Blank patch is thus my 'Standy' / 'Bypass' mode - and I need to page to and from said default whenever I wish to take the pedal off active duty. g., backing track or DAW playback) on your PC and play along with it when you have headphones into the GT-1000. Meaning I essentially 'wiped' the first User Patch - U001 - where I then had to switch off all the effects blocks within the FX Grid - and I applied instead Metronome, Tuner and PFX (FX Off) functions to the 3 core pedal Control Footswitches.

Other than the conventional variable input gain, master output level and bass/middle/treble/presence EQ (plus a bright switch where appropriate) the only tonal/response amplifier adjustments available are power‑supply compression (Sag), the effect of power stage/output transformer on the model’s dynamic response (Resonance) and a Low/Middle/High switchable overall distortion level. Being able to record two tracks with full effects and different cabinets, plus a dry track for reamping through the GT‑1000 gives you options to work with.Although the GT‑1000 has these, plus 26 highly editable effect emulations available to load into its chain’s three effects slots, the number of models available for the two AIRD preamp slots is somewhat more limited — there are two clean, three crunch and four higher‑gain Boss original amplifiers (one crunch and two high‑gain utilise MDP), plus a Roland JC‑120, a Fender Twin Reverb, Deluxe Reverb and Bassman, a Vox AC30, a Marshall 1959 and a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. The Software / Firmware here is rather in is infancy in most ways, and does not have the sophistication of modern consumer computing devices - I expect this will come eventually, but for now it's all a little manual and clunky really comparatively.

And with MIDI I/O on space-saving TRS jacks, GT-1000CORE can control—or be controlled by—other MIDI devices in your rig. With only the amplifier models in circuit, their touch‑sensitive dynamic and tonal responses to varying guitar volumes and pick and finger attacks had a real sense of life in them, and it didn’t feel to me that my guitars’ responses were being constrained by any lack of headroom in the DSP.

But while the GT‑1000 is a complex creation, it’s not complicated to use, and the Parameter Guide (available here) contains the details of every feature and facility — check that out if you want to discover all the unit’s functions, effects and emulations, and the depth to which these can be edited.

Brand new artist patch sets, designed by major guitar influencers (such as Andy James, Simon McBridge, and even PMT's own Thomas McRocklin! There's a huge feature set in play here and you actually have more options in many ways than say the MD-500 and OD-200 - where the CORE mostly replaces those and then adds some extras. I swear Boss just captured these amps at a certain point and then just put active tone stack on top and a gain switch that gives you more chainsaw or less chainsaw. If i understand correctly, within a given patch, I could assign the 3 footswitch to an effects within the patch? It could have been better though - while it hopefully will rise up to meet its true potential over the next months and years - I'm definitely sticking with it for the duration. The GX-100 looks like kind of a half assed update to the GT-1000, but I'd want to see them release a full new version with better routing, control assignments, etc.

Windows 7 and above) and connecting the GT‑1000 to a computer also makes it available as an audio interface. So you cannot just select multiple incidental parallel paths like on say a Poly Beebo - but must rely on essentially 3 parallel sets of 2 branches.I actually use quite a lot of low-frequency content so didn't really want to shave off the Bass response, while I found setting the Hi-Cut to 8kHz worked a treat for me - and brought back that analog style warmth again. I had rather expected this to be more of an open-world / open-plan environment, when it's really quite a rigid 'on-rails' system.
