About this deal

Whisky from these casks has then been married with regular bourbon cask matured Ardbeg and bottled for Fèis Ìle 2017 at 46%. Both superb whiskeys, but if you pinned me down I'd be bound to say that this is the best of the three. Ardbeg Kelpie is the 2017 Ardbeg Day bottling and was named after the water spirits that are said to wreak havoc with travellers around Ardbeg. Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product.

There's some iodine and rubber, with seaweed too, but the sweetness is the prevailing characteristic here. Finish Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar, and rich toffee. Finish: Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar and rich coffee. A curious burst of peachy, estery fruit, hickory wood, clove oil and a suggestion of black olives on the aftertaste.

This beautiful buttery and caramel layer folds beneath all those wonderful spices, and it lasts and lasts into the finish. You acknowledge, understand and agree that we are not obligated to review, check or monitor any Contributions, but we may do so. Nose: Hmm, not your usual Arbeg or at least isn’t similar to anything Ardbeg released in the last few years. You can read those older posts for more talk about this iconic Islay distillery, the Ardbeg Twenty-One review in particular. The committee’s release has a hint more complexity with the herbal dark chocolate notes, while the regular release is more focused on the salty and spicy elements on the drink.

The mid palette has a big swell of black pepper and some cinnamon with a nice vegetal sweet peat finish. Modelled on Clydesdale horses that would have pulled the canal boats across Scotland and also linked to the mythology of white horses or horses heads being the water-spirit to which they owe their name. Production stopped in 1981 but in 1989 production resumed with limited production, which continued under the ownership of Hiram Walker 'till late 1996. You know the annual ritual of Ardbeg fans: late March, rushing, hammering and encountering an overload Ardbeg site, then curse, gets angry when site goes down, makes F5 key stuck forever and all just to grab a bottle (or case) of the latest Committee Release which precedes the Ardbeg Day general release.A splash of water brings forth some classic Ardbeg notes, such as creamy coffee, smoked fudge and pine resin.
