When Bailey moves to sunny California to live with her dad, who happens to live in the same town as Alex, she decides to track him down. I loved the descriptions of the locales, locals, food, and the activities that she pursued while she was there. Although the experiences were awful, I am proud of her for putting herself out there and not letting the memory control her life.

Once he starts to open himself up to Bailey and the possibility of knowing her, we get to discover the other facets of his personality.Bailey has just moved in to her dad’s place in California, and a lot of her growth is focused around this setting. She's that type of friend where you'd tell her something and you'd hear it come out of someone else's mouth.

There's a lot of really rich detail, from the location it takes place to the museum where Bailey, Grace and Porter work, to the references to all the films they love. Porter's former best friend takes on a sort of villainous role, but there's something still pathetic about him, an addict who was led down a dark path after a serious injury. I’m someone who is extremely susceptible to the charms of an old movie, so when I saw that there was, essentially, a retelling of You’ve Got Mail (a fairly good movie, I guess) in which old film brings the ~romantic interests~ together, I had to be in.Now, I’m not a film-buff like Bailey was, but there were aspects of her characterization that I think a lot of teen girls will recognize. While with strangers he paints the persona of a cocky surfer, but that mask easily falls away with Bailey. I’d bet you a hundred thousand million dollars you didn’t think it’d be this: “‘I like your brows,’ she finally says. i think that some people might be disappointed in the lack of drama here but i really liked how realistic the relationship progression was. So, yes, it’s not hard to see where Alex, Approximately is going and readers spend the majority of the novel waiting for Bailey and Porter to catch up and make the connection for themselves, which can prove to be frustrating.
