About this deal

The narrator in these stories speaks at a quick enough pace that it doesn't seem unnatural, but clearly and slowly enough for me to understand 95% of what is being said. There’s also a volume 2 and an intermediate book of stories as a follow on to the first book, which I’m planning on going through soon. I'm also learning French and was disappointed to find out that the books in different languages all have the same stories in them.

Barbara Oakley, PhD, Author of New York Times bestseller A Mind for NumbersShort Stories in Spanish for Beginners has been written especially for students from beginner to intermediate level, designed to give a sense of achievement, and most importantly - enjoyment! Short Stories in English for Beginners has been written especially for students from beginner to intermediate level, designed to give a sense of achievement, a feeling of progress and most importantly - enjoyment. I can't evaluate this book like I would another short story collection, because it has a specific purpose and limitations that keep it from being a pure piece of creative writing. Of course I thought some were more interesting than others but they all served their purpose to help me build my ability to read Spanish, and I'll be rereading it off and on. com, Olly is known for teaching languages through the power of story – including the book you are holding in your hands right now!At the start of Covid I started taking a private, 1 hr Zoom class a week which I am still continuing. I liked the introduction and the method he wants readers to follow as they progress through the story: read the chapter all the way through, then read the summary of the chapter (in Spanish as well), go through the vocabulary list (bolded in the story), and try to answer a few multiple choice questions (checking for basic understanding of key details; all in Spanish). I do like the way Richards' book is structured with the reviews/questions/vocabulary in the back of each chapter. I was then able to understand enough of the story to use it as a godless comprehension practice and learn some new vocabulary.

There is a wide selection of subjects to the stories - historial, sci-fi, supernatural etc - but they each kept my interest up throughout. They also choose not to translate a word in one story forcing you to have to look it up and then decide to translate it for you in a later story! I feel that this book plus Olly Richard's Simple Conversations book (actually a story too) are really helping my Spanish improve. Short Stories in German for Beginners has been written especially for students from beginner to intermediate level, designed to give a sense of achievement, a feeling of progress and, most importantly, enjoyment. One downside (for some people) is that there are no English translations of the stories, however I didn’t feel that was any kind of limitation at all because of the way the series is designed. In addition, the chapter contains a list of few vocabulary that could help you understand what those Spanish words mean in English. Side note: This might just be a problem with my version, but I couldn’t help but feel that this book lacked some editing.

You’ll be able to focus on enjoying reading and having fun, rather than fumbling around with dictionaries and struggling through dense text with no support. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. If you’re learning Spanish and enjoy reading, this is the book you need to rekindle your passion for the language and take your Spanish to the next level! I've since reached fluency in Spanish, but I will always look back to this book as one of the key milestones. Short Stories in Spanish for Beginners has been written especially for students from beginner to intermediate level, designed to give a sense of achievement, a feeling of progress and, most importantly, enjoyment!I understand that to make short stories for beginner you can't make them super complicated/intriguing with nuances and so on. My only issue, as another reviewer pointed out is that the book does contain some words that are used in South American Spanish speaking countries rather than what is used in Spain. Short stories from a variety of compelling genres, from science fiction and crime to history and thriller, so you’ll have great fun reading, whilst learning a wide range of new vocabulary and rapidly improving your Spanish comprehension!

The stories are fun - the précis at the end of each chapter and the comprehension questions also useful.

In another story a family plays a prank on a girl by having her boyfriend disappear and the father dressed in a bear costume.
