Created by Lisa Sterle is an Ohio-based artist with work spanning from comic books to concept design to pop-culture-fueled illustration. But as more and more cards images hit and I realized the deck was entirely populated by female-bodied figures, my enthusiasm took a sharp nosedive. While there are a few Barbie Doll figures (like the Seven of Wands above), Sterle has also taken care to depict a few women who are not stick-thin. The colorfully illustrated, two-piece box is blessedly easy to open and close and securely holds both the deck and guidebook with no issue. I'm a Puerto Rican, non-binary lesbian who can present both masculine or feminine — so, in my readings, sometimes it was the King or the Queen or the Knight of Swords who popped out to represent me. While some might see it as being somewhat akin to 'comic book’ art, the images don't have the tedious homogeneity of comics – every character depicted is unique with subtle details defining their appearance and expression. But on the whole, I think that’s a matter of personal taste, and there are people who will find the costuming of the characters in this deck much more relatable.It uses the same Rider-Waite-based symbology and images we have grown to love with a modern change to the characters. There is also a top card with a sassy message from the deck’s creator – leave it in as a wildcard or leave it out altogether, your choice. There is a Forward by Vita Alaya which introduces the Seeker to the concepts behind the deck as well as its purpose.
