About this deal

The world building is excellent - we have politics, war, magic, multiple supernatural creatures and more yet to be discovered. I like discovering new authors although it feels like every fantasy YA is being compared to a Sarah J. The ending left us at the perfect stopping spot but I’m anxiously dying for that next book, I have to know what happens next. mark I sighed with relief that she wasn’t being a dumb dumb anymore and started standing her ground.

After all, I was the magicless halfling loved by beasts but loathed by every pure-blooded faerie at court. The romantic side plot is moving at a glacier's pace and I don't even know if I like the guy because he's barely in the story up to this point. And to add, the hardback is stunning, such beautiful artwork on the chapter pages and the inside cover as well as the outer protective one.

Yet the key to her future revolved around releasing the crows, so we jumped head first into a spellbinding adventure with Fallon! We kept learning more and more about the history and the different races and it was a nice and steady release of information. When they announced that they were doing book two and three, I figured I should read it before investing. Enemies to lovers (kind of), forced proximity but a slow, slow burn not only on the romance side, but the story too. When Tim comes in at the epilogue, it made me wish they'd read it in duet, but I'm not taking anything away from Olivia's narration, I just believe they'd complement each other really well. He had to apologize every second for killing people and just turns tail from her in shame constantly.

Unfortunately, my problem with this book is that I just didn't like the main character, Fallon at all. With an exciting, action packed ending, I cannot wait for more of the crows and whether the Fae and crows can learn to live together, but especially I need more Lore and Fallon, as she learns more truths about her origins and the prophecy. I glance from my grandfather to the commander, whose posture is as taut as a bow string and yet whose face ripples with nerves. She's a judgemental bitch and I got so sick of her holier than thou attitude just because she was a virgin. The town names of everything are confusing and as a middle aged woman there is no way I can actually make out all that smudged, tiny ink. just keeps literally saying and doing everything to be as cliché and naive with insanely bloated dialogue and old type English/spanish that doesn't fit with the story it's kinda all over the place I'm praying it levels out its infuriating that she so . What I truly appreciated about the book was its remarkable writing technique, which ensured that I never experienced any sense of boredom or fatigue throughout the story. I think what ruins a lot of this book for me, well besides the MC being VERY naive and immature, is the fact that we as readers can see where the story is going from the very beginning.
