The standard impedance lends these headphones to portable players and computers, though they may also benefit from some amplification. The peaking shows the lower mids are emphasized and bass extension is not that good because of this upper-bass-lower mids boost.

Compared to my Koss phones that have a very bright sound with particularly good reproduction of the high end registers (and give an outstanding bass sound too by their design), I initially found these bass heavy and very little of the treble registers, but wait! The construction of these phones is sturdy and has a reassuring 'feel' of German quality, also unlike some phones I have tried, they do not creak or groan as you put them on, remove them or move them about on your head. While somewhat lacking in the high mids and high highs, the overall impression is one of general quality. When not testing audio equipment or writing, you'll find him taking photographs or fiddling with circuit boards. I have a gaming headset which I also use for work for it's clear mic but for my FP-10, it just sounds horrendous especially when I pedal.

definitely neutral - possibly the most neutral in Sennheiser's range - apart from the HE1 maybe, but I haven't tried that one. IIRC, there are a few experienced players around here using the 559 so I assume it's a good pair of headphones.

The big, soft detachable ear pads of the HD 559 and its broad padded headband are every bit as comfortable as they look. Well anyway, I recently decided I wanted to use closed headphones to watch movies at night as to not disturb my girlfriend or downstairs neighbor. Compared to my expectations anyway, in practice it's not really that bad but neither is it as good as other more expensive Senheiser 5xx.To compensate for this the amplifier is cranked up to the same level ( 10dB for 120Ω at 1kHz in this case).
