About this deal

It was on frequent rotation when it first hit home video as seemingly everybody I knew was renting it and watching it, but now years later, one can appreciate it more for its intellectual qualities and visuals, as opposed to just being starry-eyed over its cast. What’s unusual about the characters in Flatliners—and this was a critique of the film when it was initially released—is that all of the characters are flawed, some far more than others.

James Newton Howard’s score seems to pack more of a punch as well, providing a much fuller-sounding atmosphere. The disc then closes off with a small 12-image gallery featuring only production photos and then the film’s original trailer that looks to have been lifted from a VHS.

label Mill Creek Entertainment has announced that it will release a special SteelBook edition of Joel Schumacher's thriller Flatliners (1990), starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt.

Stylishly photographed by Jan de Bont (Basic Instinct) and featuring a cast of Hollywood's hottest talent – including Kiefer Sutherland (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me), Julia Roberts (Secret in their Eyes) and Kevin Bacon (Wild Things) – Flatliners is the ultimate life-and-death thrill ride. For whatever reason, the early 1990s saw a small number of films popping up that dealt directly with the afterlife (two of the most notable being Ghost and Jacob’s Ladder). They consistently discuss the film while watching it together, with Reesman primarily providing real-life factoids about filming locations and the cast and crew, while Evry focuses a little more on the cinematography and the content of the film. Instead, it joins others, like The Thing (1982), which are far more thoughtful and complex in their ideas, even if the execution doesn’t crawl under my skin as expected. With six brand-new featurettes, a new feature-length audio commentary, and a restoration overseen by cinematographer Jan de Bont, today might just be a great day to die.Still, the plot's central conceit is both its blessing and its curse, setting up really high expectations only to reveal itself as some kind of old-fashioned morality play.

Joel Schumacher’s sure-handed direction gives the film a unique quality that the other ghostly-themed films released in that era don’t really have. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used except with the prior written permission of The Digital Bits, Inc.

Full Moon brings together a six pack of B-movies produced by legendary schlockmeisters Eurocine in one handy boxed. Unfortunately, when they do get into period topics like that the conversations end up being more along the lines of summaries and not as in-depth as they probably could be. Bringing back someone from the brink of death to discover what lies on the other side is something that doctors, philosophers and many religions wonder about. This makes the film gain an extra aesthetic layer, going deeper into the religious and somewhat displaced feeling that Rachel expresses. Although the end product arguably fails at completely pulling it off, credit should be given nonetheless to the filmmakers for at least trying to make a psychological horror flick actually be about something and explore some intriguing existential questions about this corporeal existence and our collective, deep-seated desire for something beyond. The contrast within individual shots can be shocking, ranging from deep, pure blacks to intense whites (or colours) and clean gradients in between. Overall, this UHD edition of the cult horror favorite is a Recommended addition to the 4K HDR library.
