Puller is a great character who had his own series (which I did read) and it was wonderful having him back on the page. In this latest novel Atlee shows that she is not immune to bad decisions as I found she made plenty during this investigation and I found myself shaking my head over some of the situations she found herself in. Although both are top notch investigators and can quickly track down leads, there’s something very untoward going on when it comes to the extended Vincenzo family. Atlee Pine is a strong, courageous protagonist and her military friend, John Puller is just an all-out admirable, stand-up guy (I heard someone say Baldacci had another series that focuses on Puller, so now I have to get those books too!

As Atlee and her assistant, Carol Blum, race to track down Vincenzo, they run into Pine's old friend John Puller, who is investigating Vincenzo’s family for another crime involving a military installation. Things escalate quickly as Puller's partner is killed, a young black student is gunned down as the culprit as Pine is trying to help, and then Puller is almost killed.I wasn’t especially impressed with the first book, but the second book convinced me to continue on with the series. Atlee’s mother apparently created quite the stir testifying and Ito may have wanted to take matters into his own hands.

Although she has caused Puller to miss making his arrest, they quickly realise they have a similar goal and agree to pool their resources in a bid to track down Vincenzo.This whole series is about Atlee Pine, female FBI agent, trying to find out what happened to her twin sister who was kidnapped when they were 6 years old. The problem is, as they go along, the number of unexpected deaths starts to grow - often as a direct result of talking to the pair. Atlee wants to know what happened to her sister Mercy who was abducted from their bed when she was six.

Tony Vincenzo is a small-time drug dealer and is liable to run rather than answer questions from an FBI agent.Brittany Pressley’s strong, calm voice made Atlee come alive, and I love that Kyf Brewer performed all the male parts. FBI agent Atlee Pine, based in Arizona, is having a mini sabbatical to learn what happened to her twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted when they were both six years old.
