About this deal

Winning a commission to paint a portrait of the man's wife, Sybille, Zorzo thinks he has found a way into the merchant's favour. There is no denying that Dibben shows extraordinary attention to detail when it comes to bringing sixteenth century Venice to life – you feel as though you are walking alongside Zorzo through this dangerous journey he undertakes.

DD: At first, it was enticing to create the mystery of an unseen colour as an identity in the story. One of the greatest painters, a vital link in the history of art who would have produced stunning masterpieces had he not died at 33, probably of plague. By focusing on the dark side of life in 16th century Venice, Dibben creates plenty of atmosphere, and although the parts of the book that concentrate on Zorzo’s relationships with Sybille and her husband interested me less, I found this an enjoyable read overall. We work with nature to make paints that are good for the environment including your home environment, many standard paints have a toxic mix of chemicals such as biocides, plastics and heavy metals to make them function as paints that stick to your wall, and make it possible to scrub them. If you are painting natural surfaces such as render or brick our paints are wonderfully durable as they are absorbed into the wall. If you are interested in books set in the Venice renaissance and enjoy your art you will love this book.

A mysterious, beyond-wealthy couple—a businessman who’s the richest man in Europe, and his kept wife who’s the most beautiful woman a person could set eyes on. The Colour Storm is set during the Italian renaissance, a time of art and creativity but also violence and treason. Particularly in the middle section as secrets begin to unfold and you are trying to get a sense of Sybille’s true character that is always frustratingly out of reach – even by the end. The two discuss Damian's recent publication 'The Colour Storm' (Penguin Books 2022) in which Damian harnesses a radical artist-driven insight into the centrality of colour in life in Renaissance Venice. The recent invention of printing has led to an explosion of knowledge, and “Pandora’s box [has been] opened”. The lead character, noted artist Giorgione, (b 1477 Castelfranco, Venice, d 1510) is especially sensitive to colour’s capacity and its ability to create physical and emotional atmospheres. We have all heard about the artistic titans of the Italian Renaissance Figures like da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo are household names and their legacy in the history of art is uncontested. There was a lot of slow moving loose-end-tying to wade through, which detracted a bit from the smooth pace and brilliant writing of the start.

Art historians have spent centuries trying to make sense of his enigmatic depictions, suffused with a misty light that seems to have drifted straight off the lagoon. Surfaces such as newly rendered walls, natural stone, mud bricks, rammed earth, even canvas, can be painted directly. We have especially developed our Prep Coat as a bridge coat between standard paint and primers to make limewash more durable, and easy to apply.Instead he finds himself caught up in a conspiracy that stretches across Europe and a marriage coming apart inside one of the city’s most illustrious palazzos.

Work is becoming hard to find, the competition from other artists is fierce and Zorzo’s debts are increasing. As the water levels rise and the plague creeps ever closer, an increasingly desperate Zorzo isn't sure whom he can trust. If you covered up all surfaces that you did not want to come into contact with the paint, then you wont have much clean up to do.The story reads like a film and the Dibben has given special attention to his exploration of “colour’s hidden dimensions and how everything is constantly at play in the mind’s eye. As the water levels rise and the plague creeps ever closer, an increasingly desperate Zorzo isn't sure whom he can trust .
