About this deal

Just set up this oven, pop it over the burner of your existing Coleman stovetop, fire it up and you’ll be ready to bake. Personalized advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. Its a shame extra insulation is needed to keep the heat in properly but easily overcome with some ingenuity.

Personally I think there is room in any backpacker or outdoors person to have one of these in their collection. Camping in high altitudes and little wood around for us makes the choice for a pressure cooker more obvious.Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centers that host Etsy. As others have said, preheat and use just enough heat to get cooking, easy to gradually increase the heat if needed rather than trying to recover a too quickly burnt offering. The wagons resident beater 421d handles the heat requirements beautifully, and whilst I've never measured fuel consumption when roasting, its never been a worry.

It also folds flat, so you can slot it in with the rest of your camping gear on your next trip away. The oven measures 12x12x12, which means you can't get too crazy - you've got to keep it small and compact, and you'll need to invest in some 8x8 baking pans if you don't already have them. I know from experience of using that oven/stove combination that on a summer's day I'd have to throttle the burner to a little over a simmer to keep the oven thermometer from going off the scale. The indicated temps were fluctuating between 325-350F despite cook time on the packaging requiring 13-17 min at 375F.It might be a tricky balance of replacing coals to get it to hold at a good temperature, but it's certainly worth a try. I also use two thin fire bricks, like for a wood burning stove, on the floor of the oven and that really helps hold and regulate the heat. On the silicone I have noticed you shouldn’t get it to hot, it will even say on the form, but for baking bread that should be okay. I'd not use one over a canister stove due to potential overheating the butane canister but I have used them over a Nova and a 413G Coleman twin burner. I use them at home, outdoors in hot weather, to avoid heating up the house, as well as while out camping.

Turning off the personalized advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. The Backpackers Pantry “Parka’ is much smaller in diameter then Camp Chefs “dome”, which makes it easier to center on camper burners. This works ok for most things yet the doughnut bread has to be turned over to bake even on both sides. Many web posts talk about uneven heating in the Coleman, and the lack of insulation may be the reason. You've got plenty good tips since I first read this early today, unfortunately the day got in the way to replying, but I'll add my thoughts now.

He's a licensed pilot, SCUBA diver and enjoys Alpine skiing, travel, sea kayaking, Overland exploration and golf. Later we read that putting a ceramic tile or pizza stone at the bottom of the oven may help spread the heat more evenly in the oven. It is also important to remove the oven from on top of the burner before extinguishing the flame when using on a gasoline or kero stove, or the residual unburnt vapors are liable to taint the baked goods. Since I'm a sucker for a good breakfast casserole and they are so easy to throw together, I decided that would be the first dish I would try out in the camp oven.

Some owners of this oven cover it with a small welding blanket to help conserve heat when cooking outside in conditions that would make the oven work harder and longer. Lately i discovered you can perfectly bake potato’s in the coleman, as long as you use a heavy pan or thick glass bowl. Now residing in beautiful Northern Michigan with his wife and 2 sons they continue to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. And on that rack you can’t put cookies and I don’t want to use aluminum foil each time so we bought two silicone sheets (or liners).

Possibly in situations where both campfires and charcoal briquettes are banned, it would win by default. At one place, high on the Chilean altiplano, we baked inside the Land Cruiser instead, converting the vehicle into a sauna in the process. I have a rocket stove, and I’m looking for an oven that can sit over the flame burner and act like a normal baking oven for bread, roast veg, etc. We watched vendors prepare them in their street stall and it looked easy enough: sieve the tapioca, sprinkle a handful of the flour in a hot, dry frying pan, top it with sweet or salty toppings, and there you go.
