About this deal

And I also wanted to let the paint, itself, flow a little more freely to enhance the sense of dynamism this character has always had in my mind. This is a must for any aspiring artist or individual seeking inspiration of the macabre and brimstone laden sort. Sharing the world of Hell, the demons and Abyssals co-exist in an uneasy relationship with both sides preying upon each other.

These are works reminiscent of painter John Martin, whose own vistas of Hell hang in the world's finest museums. She then wrote to American publisher DAW, known for it's fantasy and horror selections, who immediately accepted her manuscript and published the book in 1975.

Hailed for his vivid depictions of life in hell's inferno, Wayne Barlowe fills his paintings with sprawling landscapes and bizarre inhabitants. Barlowe's visions of hell are unique and beautiful, and his intent to make them timeless and cross-cultural is fully successful. Aware that their era is coming to a close, their heightened bitterness compels them to acts of wanton aggression against any intruders who stray into their territories. The only solution that satisfied my world’s internal logic was to riff on the concept behind Agares’ steed as depicted in the INFERNO book.

For a variety of reasons I’d rather not elaborate upon here, I decided to separate this entity visually from all of the other demons in Hell and go with a somewhat more abstract form. There have been so many “evil” buildings rendered in paintings and for film that I was consciously trying not repeat anything I’d seen before. Wayne Barlowe’s Inferno is an awesome visual work, taking us into a contorted landscape of the damned which Dante himself could never have imagined. The notion of a pre-existing fauna indigenous to Hell before the demons arrived opens up a whole line of conjecture.

Tanith Lee, September 19, 1947 - May 24, 2015 Tanith Lee was born on September 19, 1947 in London, England, the daughter of ballroom dancers. Leaving Adamantinarx – (unpublished – acrylic on Gessoboard) – Caravans of all description cross the hostile Wastes, braving Abyssals, Salamandrine Men and marauding demons from enemy realms. Even though he worked roughly two hundred years ago there is yet a transcendent majesty to William Blake’s vivid, mystical painting’s and etchings.

As I had just recently finished GOD’S DEMON and there was a scene involving Demolishers, this painting provided me a rare and serendipitous opportunity to envision a kinetic battle scene in Hell. Long one of my white whales, I finally acquired a copy of the autographed, slipcased, 250-copy limited run. his depictions of both the grandeur and the horror of Hell even surpass his original paintings and drawings. Much as I did with EXPEDITION, I plan to do a series of wildlife paintings focusing on the fauna of Hell.
