About this deal

I had hoped that this was a more layered fragrance with some differentiation between the lemon, orange, bergamot and mandarine but it stays very linear and there is no complexity. For that reason, this is an excellent base for layering under white floral scents that might be considered ‘unisex’ but lean in a more feminine direction. The opening consists of a faint lemon scent that dries down to something akin to a diluted sample of Encre Noire.

If you like it I would still consider wearing it around your significant other before going all out on a full bottle, it would bother me quite a bit to cuddle up with my significant other while he smelled like this. Conclusion, perfect combination) Jokes aside, I can say that in terms of longevity, I really can't smell it on myself after 10-15 minutes of application. After like 20 minutes, it is less cloying and more pleasant and some other note is there but I don’t know what it is.I didn't understand her but she may have been talking about the "masculine earthy vibe" that people keep talking about? Sanja Pekic is a Fragrantica editor from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, who has been part of the team since 2008.

It doesn't last very long, but I always carry a small atomizer with me and refresh the scent 2-3 times throughout the day. It manages to avoid the "cleaning products smell" issue that some wood and citrus fragrances suffer from. It's subtlety and inoffensiveness are perfect for the workplace, where you don't want to overwhelm your colleagues with a heavy musk. I don’t like Artisan Pure by itself BUT layering it with st barts by tommy bahama actually makes it smell so much better and makes it last a tiny bit longer. The blast of citrus in the opening is so overpowering it smells like some commuter bus from my country. It contains notes of clementine, petitgrain, thyme, orris root, marjoram, woody notes, mandarin orange, lemon, bergamot, musk, amber and ginger. Although I really like this one on the whole, it falls way, way short in the longevity and sillage departments: It quickly loses its delicious citrus oomph from the beginning (I'm talking not even 20 minutes later to my nose, though I may be going noseblind to it early on), and it breaks down further into powdery woody notes, finally into a very unexpected, weird skin scent that seems like a mixture of ozone, paper, phosphorus, graphite. As we move into the heart of the fragrance, the fresh green character of petitgrain and thyme burn off a bit, bringing soft oily bergamot to the forefront, with the mandarin trailing behind.

Inspired by the verdant and lush hills of Xalapa, Mexico and its vast coffee and citrus groves, redolent, luxurious citrus notes bring an understated elegance to modern, sun warmed woods. If you don't like photorealistic citrus (this is a rindy orange the same way light blue forever is a rindy grapefruit), then you probably won't like this. I was so excited to try this during the cold season because there's a bit of sweetness in these John Varvatos fragrances, and sometimes, SOME summer scents do GREAT in winter if they're a bit sweet. Lasts up to 6 hours, but this is a characteristic of all Varvatos fragrances, and it is quite enough for the hot summer season.Let’s face it, even if you're a model, people usually don’t just come up to you and comment on your scent. My only complaint about Varvatos and if I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, they don't last. It is so faint, people can't even tell you are wearing cologne, unless they come up close to you and notice the smell of alcohol it emits. This cologne is the scattering of the summer sun through citrus trees, and sharp, sweet bite of the ripened fruit in their branches. Throughout the wear, the bergamot remains the star player, with the fragrant citrus element of petitgrain overtaking the green element, soft mandarin zest, lemongrass, that fluffy softness, a warm kiss of amber, and just a whisper of herbal greenness all following behind, until it ultimately settles to a skin scent and fades.
