About this deal

Place the container in the refrigerator overnight or for up to 2 days; the longer the time, the saltier the fish will be. This is truly a recipe book meant for anime fans whether or not they can make many of the dishes before seeing this. Did you know that Paul Simon’s Mother and Child Reunion song title was based on Oyakodon, a chicken and egg rice bowl? This book offers enough variance of foods from appetizing such as mitarashi dango (samurai champion) and bento inspiration (school baby sitter).

I love this cookbook and really look forward to giving a go at making some of the dishes (or making a complete mess if my skills aren’t quite up to the challenge yet). I was so intrigued by this that I wanted to explore it—and this book was developed from my perspective as an outsider looking in. Along with that, there is a cake recipe inspired by the Alice in Wonderland episode of Ouran Highschool Host Club, a Mystery Sizzling Steak inspired by Tokyo Ghoul, and even instructions for My Neighbor Totoro latte art. It’s a no-brainer for anime buffs, but those less well-versed in the genre will likely feel left out of the picture. Every recipe was a delight, and for the first time in forever, I’ve found a cookbook where I will eat almost every dish. Diana Ault has been crafting stories, conducting kitchen experiments, and cozying up with anime since she was very young.

The dishes aren't necessarily the specific ones as seen in a specific anime, either, merely the common version.I've seen plenty of "inspired by" books but I have to say this is easily one of the must fun and practical examples of how to bring fantastical worlds into your own home, learn some new skills and involve the family too. Or that ketchup, spaghetti, and pepper steak have appeared in anime and in Japanese kitchens for years? I love how the book began with a list of essential food and tools that are required in your anime food kitchen and how it went into detail, describing the ingredients, what it is used for, and what it tastes like. Shockingly, the recipes in this book are easy enough for anyone to try—even the rice-stuffed omelettes! Although the illustrations all very details and mouthwatering, additional real pictures of the food will give this book stronger kicks.

Re-discover the most essential and popular works of the moment in this collection in the most gourmet way possible, from the One Piece Sanji and Tajiro Curry to the Your Name Dream Souffle Pancakes! And that is where I see this book really shining, it is an easy entry point into cooking and preparing Japanese food at home. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet or oven-safe dish with lightly scrunched-up and re-flattened aluminum foil (scrunching the foil will help the salmon not stick to it).

I definitely appreciate Estero’s focus on creating visually cute or stunning food with innovative flavours. I am not good at cooking but recipe at this book will tempt everyone (not only anime lover) to trying make some decent Japanesse homemade food. The caveats: this is not a book for a beginning cook/baker, nor is it for children, as it has recipes for alcoholic drinks. It has bento meals, stir-fry stuff, fried food, desserts, and even drinks--all the Japanese food that I eat, nothing was unfamiliar. The food in anime can act as a window into Japanese culture and history …’ so begins Cook Anime , which re-creates dishes found in popular anime series like Sailor Moon, Kill la Kill, and Dragon Ball.
