LEGO has revealed two new sets to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year: 80104 Lion Dance and 80105 Chinese New Year Temple Fair. Not only does 60431 Space Explorer Rover come with two Minifigures, the rover is also designed alternatively seat two MINIDOLLS without modification.

Note that the Chinese year does not coincide with the Western calendar, moreover, Chinese New Year does not fall on the same date every year.This time we build up the gold lions, with identical design elements as the white lion: except for some colour variations. The I found it was a good time to share the building duties with other members of my family, as we built the lions up. Both sets feature an incredible amount of new prints, recoloring of pieces and a significant amount of minifigures which all combine into a large festival setting.

There are other recolored elements, and I shall endeavour to discuss them as they appear in the building process. The subtle angle on the side of the face is a nice touch, and the underside of a round plate for ears, along with simple sloped parts for the hands and feet are simple but effective.There are compnents of a temple in each set, and there are design cues borrowing heavily from each, although they remain different enough to have their own identity.

The build is not complicated (evidenced by the 8+ label), but there is a meditative aspect to the contruction of similar elements, which surprisingly never became boring. Features a rotatable head and movable ears, arms and legs, plus a podium with red flower and leaf elements. The bed is a terrific little build with some creative parts use to make the rumpled blankets and give the illusion that the minifigs are tucked not-so-safely in their bed. Each lion comes with 2 sets of minifigure legs ( a new print, unique to this set), but no torso or head to go with them.
