About this deal

I’m always honest and upfront when chatting to people about campaigns and I remember saying I felt the timeline was too short. It’s a game like no other – a luxury board game that combines the elements of strategy, wordplay, and learning in a beautifully crafted package. Puzzles feature large in this week’s Top Games of the Week blog, with quiz-based word puzzles in League of the Lexicon and Journal 29 Oblivion, a puzzle game where you interact with a book. Indeed, that's pretty much recognised in the short rule book which offers several variants that amount to a licence to use the cards to play in any way that takes your fancy. And lest the sheer opulence of the game seems overwhelming, be assured you don’t even have to play to enjoy it.

For the moment, JOYO works with 6 smart board and puzzle-based games that cover themes like sci-fi, magic, and mystery. League of the Lexicon will get people thinking, talking and wondering and with questions contributed by some of the finest linguists and lexicographers around the world, players will be challenged like never before. They get you thinking outside the box and make you use your knowledge in ways you normally wouldn’t. Players take a Character card, draw questions and earn Artefacts to attain glory in this beautifully designed and hand-illustrated game for 2-6 people. Contents: 1 double-walled game box, 400 large format question cards, 45 hand-illustrated Artefact cards, 6 stunning character cards, 1 wooden die, 1 rulebook. On your turn, you roll a six-sided die and answer that number question on a card (the die has 'player choice' on its sixth face). He says his ambition was “to make the ultimate game about words and language”, and the game’s 2,000 questions – divided into two levels of difficulty – cover everything from slang and archaic words to definitions, etymology, usage and trivia.

This intriguing cast, from the esteemed Doc Johnson to Roget, the martini-drinking badger, are the characters used during play and have been brought to life by the illustrator Stavros Damos. If your dinner party guests clamour for more, you can dish out more cards and keep the game going; better certainly than risking game play outstaying its welcome. I haven't played an actual game, other than when my son visited and we all sat around just reading from the cards and not keeping score. He had a game that he had been working on for a while and was trying to work out if it would be possible to launch it on Kickstarter within just a few months. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. When she's not typing away at her computer, she cooks and travels with her husband and two daughters. Launching a crowdfunding campaign can be overwhelming, but with the right tools, preparation, and help, it can be life changing.
