About this deal
In this book you’ll discover the real lives of our kings and queens from William the Conqueror to King Charles III.
For every king and queen there is a detailed timeline, and the narrative is further amplified by display quotations, feature boxes, panels of key biographical facts, and - last but not least - by 135 lavish full-colour images. The Kings and Queens of England offers elegant portraits of 59 English monarchs from Harold II to Henry VIII, and from Æthelred the Unready to Elizabeth II. Will they be her 'at home' knickers - adorned with corgis - or her 'garden party' knickers, or perhaps her woolly Balmoral ones.Among the many sad examples in this lineage, those that are chronicled regarding the Hanoverians are perhaps most horrific. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally).
In the Introduction, Antonia Fraser quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, saying, "There is no history, only biography," which sums up this book nicely, as it is concerned just with the biographies of the monarchs of England, not with the history around them, and the quote does make a good point that human history is simply made up of biographies of people.I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.
