The Blu-ray for this second entry in the "Ultimate Trilogy" box set is probably the most disappointing of the whole collection.
Spielberg, however, knows how to use them, and keeps the story, emotion and character at the front of the piece and allows the effects to enhance the narrative. The film is far more visually nuanced than the original movie, and thus it's a softer, more delicate print – one that doesn't make a sparkling leap to Blu-ray. Most of this stuff has been seen before, but we do get a new six-part documentary that covers the three films, with its appropriate section on the relevant discs.The opening scene is simply wonderful – the wind rustling the leaves overhead while the ‘raptor thrashes around inside the cage, as the park staff try to contain it. While not directly taken from any specific piece of material by Crichton, the second sequel pieces together a few elements not used in the previous two books, namely the aviary filled with Pteranodons. Vocals can, at times, feel a bit drowned out by the all the commotion, but it's rather clear for the most part. The DTS:X surround track is incredible, taking what was impressive about the previous releases and adding that extra layer to make something truly special. engagement and excellent fidelity; John Williams' legendary score has never sounded so good, so immersive, so precise.Action sequences fill the back speakers with endless commotion and stirring energy, generating a satisfyingly immersive soundfield and making this high-rez track a reference quality listen. Extras for Jurassic Park, and the rest of this set, are just a tad underwhelming if only because they lack any true Blu-ray innovations.
