The instructions are incredibly clear and spell out exactly what to do, allowing new players to learn the game easily. With 17 (21 in the expansion) cards, you’ll learn all the abilities quickly, and all are eminently intuitive and printed directly on the card. Players can try to achieve this fabled victory in three different ways: Through Leadership, through Land or with Religion.

To an untrained observer, it looks very reactionary – and it definitely often is in the endgame – but that belies the various ways you can build within the apparent chaos of the game. None will seem out of place with the base game, with a single exception that deals explicitly with island tiles.Everyone was standing at this point, weighing their options, half in expectant calculation, half in nervousness. With the expansion’s length-mitigating module, I’ve never seen the game go past the 5th round, and that includes sprawling epics like the one described above. Careful drafting, hand management, bluffing (especially once players understand the importance of passing their turn), good timing, and a precise understanding of the balance of power are the keys to victory. e., have more clan figures than any other player — of territories containing at least six opponents' clans. Like many recent expansions with modules, you can use any number of them, mixing and matching to your taste.

Battles can be important in determining chieftains, which not only helps you on to your way to one of the victory conditions, but gains you an advantage card. On their turn, a player may instead choose to withdraw his forces to a neighboring territory he controls.I don’t review games, as far as I can, unless I’ve actually done my level best to get the most out of them and play them on their own terms. I imagine, because I don’t have any direct experience to say anything stronger, that things get much more sophisticated when you can insinuate hidden motivations of nefarious others into the suspicious minds of your opponents. The moments I outlined weren’t the only tense or exciting ones; they were just the last ones in a brutal but calculated dance. But remember this doesn’t let you win until another phase, so other players can potentially take your hard-earned victory condition away.
