If you’re Googling the reviews bear in mind that this place started out as Gusto-Italiano in Church Street in 2007 then moved to Norfolk Row and dropped the ‘Italiano,’ becoming VeroGusto last year after a legal letter from a restaurant chain. We were up near the cathedral and spotted what was then Gusto Italiano, a cafe with the smell of the most amazing coffee wafting out through the door.

The Sheffield food scene was actually buzzing around this time and there were lots of new places to try and Vero Gusto seemed to always be on our radar but on a “next time Gusto” type of thing. The service and food was outstanding, arrived a bit early so we were asked if we wanted to sit at the table or in the wine bar while we waited, we sat. Then, a food reviewer from the local rag came in and within a week of his review the footfall had trebled and it’s never stopped. We cater to both lunch and dinner, and our menu features an extensive selection of irresistible dishes to choose from. Half way through the meal the waiter came to the table and apologised, saying he had made a mistake.Once the restaurant got up and running (helped along by an amazing review by the one and only Martin Dawes, Sheffield’s infamous food critic), our family welcomed two new members! It said everything I wanted to say about the food so I changed tack and this came out, which started as my intro but is now my reminisce.

But tonight is my wife’s birthday and we are celebrating with friends Craig and Marie Harris, fellow foodies, Italophiles and bloggers. for lunch and yes, that is pricy, as TripAdvisor reviewers, say but it is a trip to Italy for an hour or two without the cost of the air fare. To provide balance to this review, we all really enjoyed the food which was beautifully presented and very tasty.
