About this deal

If I’m to knit pick, It just felt like I was reading a picture book and would have liked it to go a little further into depth about some things rather than just a brief summary/chapter on each topic. For the fans of Tifo YouTube channel’s unique artwork based footballing illustrations, this book is a treat, but for the fans of the analysis deep dive on footballing matters that the same Chanel provides on YouTube, this book comes across as a bit shallow. It gave me a better idea of what a quarterback does, and a much better idea of what, say, a defensive lineman does.

For me, Tifo's "How To Watch Football" was a bad case of high/misguided expectations that were not met at all. I purchased this book because I was hoping I'd have a better understanding of offensive and defense play sets, across both the WCO and Air Coryell philosophies. Which made it a bit hard when he doesn't go into explanations of some of the basic stuff - like a screen pass, or a play-action - and sure, those are things that I'm sure a lot of people do know. Years Online Serving Fans Like You – We have been online since 2006 serving football fans from all over the world. The sections about line play were probably the most useful stuff that cannot be learned through a game of madden per say. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. I really liked the short chapters and format and I really hope they bring vol 2 with really advanced learning of the game ! The first half primarily focuses on the offensive aspects of the game, with dedicated chapters covering topics such as quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and offensive linemen. Tifo have been due for a rebrand for some time now, but this is hardly the platform to air such grievances.

Like me, he had a deep interest in and knowledge of American football, but our actual playing experience was limited to backyard games.

You can pick up on his biases pretty easily (dude obviously loves the Patriots), but in general, he lays down an even-handed, accessible look at the current(-ish) incarnation of the game, as broken down by position and offense v. I ended up having to google a few things, and that inconvenience could've been easily saved by putting even the basic definitions in the glossary - which would have covered a wider assortment of those of us with spotty knowledge in some areas. It's best suited to casual fans, and especially outside - of - America fans, who want to understand the sport at a better level. Pat Kirwan has an easy, entertaining style and never appears to be looking down on the reader from any heights of expertise.

Kirwin then gives his opinion on the future of the NFL as well as a handy glossary of terms the reader has probably learned. He makes a great point about the learning curve of the game in that, unlike baseball, where announcers have lots of empty air space to talk about strategy - since the action is fairly quick and spread out over a long amount of time - football has very little time between plays, and by the time an announcer would be able to explain a play on an in-depth level, the next is well past happening. In this short, illustrated guide, its creators share fifty-two simple 'rules' for understanding and enjoying the beautiful game-both on and off the pitch. It is part of The Athletic, who provide unrivalled football insight and coverage across a range of formats from written to video and audio. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Translated from the original Dutch, this unusual book from Ruud Gullit, two-time World Player of the Year and manager at a number of clubs, attempts to educate the reader about the nature of the modern game to reveal the hidden patterns behind the world's most successful teams.

The 4 star rating reflects a blend of a 5 star rating for someone who is not very engaged in soccer but would like to be, and a 3 star rating for someone who follows the game. To be fair, text size is not such an issue when read in perfect lighting, eg outdoors, but artificial lighting eg indoors or evening is the condition for older eyes which makes tiny text very difficult.

Hospitality packages include match tickets and a host of other extras, ranging from fantastic food and drink options to car parking, match programmes and souvenir gifts. Without a doubt, this was one of the best books I've ever read on the art of watching and understanding football. As an avid football fan of at least ten years, I can attest that many of the 'rules' included were at least somewhat novel and interesting. After your game, relive that perfect 1-2 or nutmeg in our state-of-the-art sports lounges with BT Sport on the big screen and free Wi-Fi. In this short, illustrated guide, its creators share fifty simple 'rules' for understanding and enjoying the beautiful game - both on and.
