Despite being critical of Alison Goldfrapp's "wispy, ethereal, often impenetrable vocal approach", Dave Hughes of Slant Magazine opined that the album is "most compelling for the way in which the band's regained austerity and naturalism contrasts with their more recent hedonism. Seventh Tree' was the fourth album by English duo Goldfrapp and was a move away from the glitterball disco-pop they had peddled previously.

Originally released in February 2008, Seventh Tree has been out of print for many years and will be reissued here as a yellow vinyl pressing with the original artwork by Alison Goldfrapp and Mat Maitland with photos by Serge Lebon, packaged in a gatefold sleeve and full colour inner sleeve with lyrics, an art print and exclusive to MuteBank an A1 poster as featured on the original pressing.

So is Little Birds, another fantastic song, this time with intelligible lyrics and an unexpected Strawberry Fields Forever-ish coda. Seventh Tree became Goldfrapp's second release to chart on the Billboard 200 in the United States, [27] where it debuted at number 48 with first-week sales of 15,000 copies.

Some of the tracks launch themselves into hippy psychedelia and here and there it sounds like some of the instruments are being looped backwards ( "Little Bird" ). Adrien Begrand of PopMatters found that Seventh Tree "might be a quieter and more introspective disc than we'd been expecting, but this is still a quintessential Goldfrapp album with Gregory's arrangements brilliantly underscoring the inimitable vocal versatility of his female foil. The acoustic guitar is sensational and Allison's voice (espcially her high-pitched cooing at the end) is euphoric, like I just went out on a date with a girl I never met before absorbing this song.

The far-out kicks in on the poptastic Caravan Girl, which is a bit like running naked through a cosmic soup, and the fluttering mellotrons of Little Bird show up the likes of Oasis' ham-fisted attempts at psychedelia. It shimmers and shines with the warmth of a hazy summer, an electric whirlpool of sound over which Alison's glistening voice soars. The gatefold sleeve (not sure if the original pressing had a gatefold), is nice quality, rather than feeling like a pale imitation of the original design, which sometimes happens with reissues, both i terms of artwork and card quality, and with a very nice "wide-spine". Even if Seventh Tree is sonic dishwater, I'll give Goldfrapp enough credit to assume that this isn't change for its own sake, that the motivation for this album's tone wasn't simply a fatigued boredom with their old sound.
