About this deal

Packed with stories about boys who aren't afraid to cry and rhymes about girls who refuse to kiss frogs, FEARLESS FAIRY TALES shakes up dusty, old-fashioned (and, to be honest, rather sexist) bedtime stories and totally reinvents them for the twenty-first century.

As ever Rikin Parekh’s pictures play up the ridicule, humour and imagination, as we’ve come to enjoy with his illustrations as in This Book Has Alpacas and Bears. i bought this to read to my beaver colony but obviously had to test run it (after the mistake a few years ago thinking the harry potter fairy tale one would be suitable 🙈).Here we have Sleeping Brainy, Mouldysocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Baked Beanstalk……you probably get the picture. However, I’m not sure how you might feel about reading that Mouldysocks loved playing games such as Mario Fart, (there is liberal use of the word throughout the tales which many will feel is playing for cheap laughs) and whilst you might secretly smile at Trumplestiltskin with its thinly veiled dig at a certain American President, you might also be concerned about sharing your views so liberally.

A hilarious and anarchic collection of classic bedtime stories for young readers, all utterly updated for a new generation - now in paperback format.Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example.

This time she has left the illustrations to Rikin Parekh, who has done an excellent job of matching her style to the prose. I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic! While traditional fairy tales undoubtedly have their place in children’s literature, this subversive and original collection tackles contemporary issues such as equal pay, knife crime, disability rights and fake news with great humour, intelligence and a fresh, exciting perspective. From a rapping long-haired princess to an eco warrior mermaid (with a flatulating orange-faced angry little man along the way), just about every classic fairy tale has been reimagined for the world today. Would you like to read classic stories that have something worthwhile to say about the world we live in today? Meet Trumplestiltskin , a vain and gold-obsessed little man who will stop at nothing to become richer and richer.

Yet things are never what they seem in Fearless Fairy Tales, and Zareen’s encounter with the peashooter could lead to a fierce debate. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). From fake news to female footballers, environmental pollution to equal pay, nothing is off limits in this anthology of laugh-out-loud fairy tales with thoroughly modern morals. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!
