About this deal

Despite this achievement, Layla was viewed as a commercial failure, according to authors Harry Shapiro [17] and Jan Reid. In September 2013, Universal Music Japan issued a remastered version of Layla on SHM-CD, edited in DSD at Universal Music Studios, Tokyo. Clapton used a diminutive 5-watt tweed Fender Champ during the sessions, [11] which has grown to legend since. The flashing dagger of a riff is one of the finest in history and Clapton duels magnificently with both his overdubbed self and Allman before an exhausted piano-based second act. But let us draw a veil over that sorry time and move forward to February 2011, when a friend of mine recommended "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs".

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. We get the band's withdrawn, Phil Spector-produced debut single, backing an up-tempo version of 'Tell The Truth' (re-recorded and extended for the album) with the otherwise unavailable 'Roll It Over', a strident rocker the equal to what would subsequently be recorded for the LAYLA album; a great set played on Johnny Cash's television show, the highlight of which is Cash, Clapton and Carl Perkins performing an exuberant cover of Perkins' 'Matchbox'; and finally the several tracks taped for what was planned as the Dominos' second LP, which was destined never to be finished. Christgau wrote in conclusion: "his meaning is realized at those searing peaks when a pained sense of limits – why does love have to be so sad, I got the bell-bottom blues, Lay-la – is posed against the good times in an explosive compression of form.I'm curious if the 2008 Polydor one is much better than this 1975 Japanese one but not so curious as to be willing lay down the cash. With regards to the packaging, well, all the LAYLA album's original artwork is present and correct (they've got the colour tones of the front cover painting more faithful to the vinyl edition this time around in my opinion; the '97 edition looked much too pale), but aside from containing some worthy recording session information, there is no essay about the band's history and dissolution included, perhaps because the story of the Dominos - involving a repertoire fuelled by Eric Clapton's longing for Patti Harrison, and the the drug-soaked tour which planted the seeds of the band's destruction - has already been etched into rock legend.

Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs has already been the subject of Other Assorted Releases in which the briefly-lived Dominos’ legacy has been padded out with remasters, remixes and bonus tracks. The miscellany disc is predictably mixed (and indeed sometimes remixed), though the Johnny Cash Show appearances are marked by some zip. As the tour progressed the set changed, with the first half of the show consisting entirely of songs from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and culminating in "Layla". It suffices to say that Layla itself and the long slow blues tunes like Key to the Highway are my favourites.Grouping the Dominos album with recent releases by Bob Dylan, the Beatles and Stephen Stills, Sander added, "It's [Clapton's] instincts, not his talents, that are out of synch, and he is certainly not alone, nor by any means the worst offender, in depositing garbage into the vault of a guaranteed personal audience.

The two-CD "Deluxe" edition features five previously unreleased tracks, "It's Too Late", " Got to Get Better in a Little While", "Matchbox" (with Carl Perkins) and "Blues Power" (from The Johnny Cash Show) and a jam version of "Got to Get Better in a Little While". To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Clapton and Whitlock co-wrote "I Looked Away", "Keep on Growing", " Anyday", " Bell Bottom Blues", " Tell the Truth" and "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?
