About this deal

She makes a lot of stupid, irrational decisions, but we are reminded that she is only human and prone to mistakes. There is little if anything to like about this woman who is married to an amiable, biddable but overwhelmed/ henpecked nurse who has given up his job to be a stay at home dad for their sick son Andy. The Harvest (released as Can't Come Out to Play in Europe) [1] is a 2013 American horror thriller film released by IFC Films that was directed by John McNaughton.

Katherine, who had caught up to Jason and Maryann, is informed via her pager that her son's ventilator has been unplugged, and runs back to the house. A TV weatherman is recruited by government scientists to help contain powerful freak winds before they converge and destroy the planet. Katherine's behavior grows even more volatile, while Maryann discovers that Jason was abducted from the hospital as a baby. As the young pair grow ever closer, Charlie's mother (Morton) becomes increasingly concerned for her sick boy and obsessive in her quest to shelter him from harm. There are a lot of complex themes here and they are touched upon carefully, the direction is intelligent and clear; we never truly believe that Kathleen is entirely evil and you should be able to offer her up some sympathy. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

would be really shameful to be associated with anybody in this visual sewage, and being related to any of the associated people would probably make me cutting ties and drift away, changing name and all.The psychopathy of Andys mother is so awful it’s hard to watch at times but the performance is truly commendable. As Andy is very sick he must stay within his home per the instructions of his mother, Katherine ( Samantha Morton), who also forbids him from having any visitors.

In her role as Katherine Young, Samantha Morton provides a disturbing insight into the lengths a mother will go to protect her child. As an Oscar nominee, Morton is capable of far more than this script provided and rather than letting the tension play out naturally, certain scenes were definitely over-acted. They manage to get back inside the house and Maryann hides in the basement, where she discovers a comatose boy.

The film premiered on October 19, 2013 as part of the Chicago International Film Festival and was screened on July 21, 2014 in Canada as part of the Fantasia International Film Festival. I WAS ACTUALLY STUNNED by some of the poorer reviews, but if they were based on the premise this was a horror I can almost understand, as although there are truly horrible / horrendous aspects to the narrative, it is a THRILLER.

A couple who keeps their sick son in a secluded environment find their controlled lives challenged by a young girl who moves in next door. The pair had abducted the real Jason as a baby, so they could harvest his organs, and save their ill son. A frantic Katherine, refusing to accept that there is no hope for her son, subdues Richard with a sedative and pursues the children.I mean, c'mon, there's a section when they want you to be excited from watching a teenage version of Misery.
