It is a improvement over the xl1 not only is the lens have better focus and slightly brighter image but for live events there is a button that takes all the displays off. While I'm a big DVX100 fan (having owned one for many years) and it was a great camera, I highly recommend you look at a High Definition camera. At the time of this writing, I have not seen or used the XL1S for myself and user reports will not become available until the camera is released to the market. I haven't seen it, but the increase in image quality over the XL1 is said to be noticeable immediately. So if you choose to shoot lower-quality video today based on the fact that it will be posted to YouTube you may come to regret it in the future.

The +30db setting does introduce some noticeable noise, but is useful for shooting in almost totally dark environments. But old video wasn't good enough, even then, and to be honest, today's 1080 HD probably isn't quite there yet, either. Superior image quality and pro-oriented features make the XL1S ideal for those with discriminating taste.
