Hi Cal, that’s a good question, the overdrive built in to the Blackstar HT5R is excellent – probably better than the SD-1 to be honest. Just what I was looking for; think Eric Clapton's 'woman tone' (check out the YouTube of the Boss Blues Overdrive pedal) but this has a slightly more edgy tone. The SD-1 also shines as a booster for high-gain amps and other drive pedals, providing mid focus, tight bass, and smooth top end that's perfectly suited for heavier sounds and solo playing.
