the Micro BR lets you record and mix four tracks of audio, but you can also record up to eight virtual tracks (alternate versions) per track if you have the space available on your memory card, enabling you to pick the best parts for your final mix.I have to admit that back when I started out in recording, I never for a moment imagined a fully functioning recording studio that you could lose down the back of the sofa! The BOSS BR Series has always done all of the above, and I don’t think I can be bothered connecting my iPad to my Presonus iOne and my iOne to a power outlet again, as well as having to set up mics and headphones. The only BRs that have less are the original Micro BR and the BR-532 which both have only 4 mixer channels, so they can only play back (and bounce) 4 tracks at a time. There's also a central image canceller that reduces the level of vocals and other centrally panned parts for karaoke applications, but let's not go there! There are also relatively few buttons, aside from the familiar tape-style transport buttons, the power switch, and four track select buttons. In addition to being able to plug in your guitar, keyboards and dynamic microphones, the BR-80 also features a set of stereo condenser microphones, which means that you're always ready to record. The preset patches allow first-timers and pros alike to enjoy high-quality sounds immediately, while power users can tweak parameters in micro detail for the ultimate tonal control.

Plus with the high-quality time-stretching, it's easy to learn pieces of music by slowing them down to hear the nuances and record your attempts at speed for review. Though it doesn't challenge the best drum boxes on sound or flexibility, it's pretty versatile and includes useful rhythms across a range of styles. Connect the left and right outputs of the instrument/device into the stereo LINE IN jack on the side panel of the BR-80.

It's difficult for me to tell difference from various tracks and samples - from this laptop - way too tinny. The vocal effect chain is a little simpler, with compression, enhancer, EQ, noise suppression and delay but, again, there's also the overall reverb that can be used to add individual amounts of Hall or Room reverb to the four audio tracks and to the rhythm track. Boss BR-80 can record up to 8 tracks, provide backing tracks for stage or rehearsal and record live shows using a built in stereo condenser mic. Unlike tape, where you had to leave a track free if you wanted to 'bounce' down existing tracks to make more space available, the Micro BR allows you to record all four tracks and then bounce these to a virtual track.
