About this deal

So now the show is a breeding ground for divisiveness and conflict, dancing tentatively on the line between ‘entertainment’ and ‘bullying’.

We see Bunter Jolly (Boris Johnson), Guppy Toad (Michael Gove) and Greased-Hogg (Jacob Rees-Mogg) as unwitting playthings of Putin, working to further their own power and accidentally increasing Putin’s stranglehold at the same time. I listened to this as an audiobook read by the author, and laughed aloud more than once walking along. Yes, Mr Elton has extrapolated past and current events to an outlandish degree and it does all seem a little overblown and ridiculous. At least that’s what literally happens to the beleaguered characters in Ben Elton’s latest novel, Identity Crisis.I have learnt so much about the current trends in social media that I didn’t fully know about (and I actually use social media). is murdered in a park to the hammy old 'lech' of an actor maneuvering to stay relevant (and solvent) as his one man show is vilified.

Walter has cleverly created superficially likeable protagonists in a dual narrative style whilst hinting enough that you inherently know you can’t trust them. Ben Elton has once again crafted a great satire which questions what has become of our society today and how this controls every single thing we do now. The Dinner Guest more or less achieved this: I had figured out whodunnit pretty early on but not the motive.

Yes, there was a plot, flicking back and forth between different characters that tied together in the end, but I didn’t really feel connected to the characters. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It is well written and has a plot that is expressed through several different characters and scenarios - some far less palatable than others this is true. Ben Elton’s Identity Crisis is a dreary, unentertaining and uninspired “satire” - confirmation bias in book form for the olds that modern stuff is rubbish.
