About this deal

is a decently sharp lens: our copy showed a slight amount of de-centering, but not so much as to get excited about. Instead I bought this little Panasonic collapsing lens since its so small I can carry it with me everywhere I take my camera.

The problem is that some users refers to huge problems of jitters, shakiness, despite the image stabilization which make footage clearly unusable, even on a tripod… What is about the 35-100 f4 when filming at 100 mm on a good Fluid head tripod while slowly panning and tilting ? This past fall, Panasonic made several announcements in advance of Photokina, but one that flew under the radar a bit was the addition of a very compact 35-100mm f/4-5. The blue column represents readings from the centre of the picture frame at the various apertures and the green is from the edges. the 35-100 is great for travelling light and mixing with lenses that share the 46mm filter thread – so the 25mm and the mark 2 14-42 kit zoom make a good 3 lens set that weighs litttle and fits in a tiny bag. I also tested this lens, and many other M4/3 optics, on an Olympus E-M5 Mark II in its 9216-pixel high-resolution RAW mode, processed with DXO 10.The VFA target should give you a good idea of sharpness in the center and corners, as well as some idea of the extent of barrel or pincushion distortion and chromatic aberration, while the Still Life subject may help in judging contrast and color. we see the image of that lens de-centering on the left-hand side of the frame; stopping down to ƒ/8 removes this corner softness entirely.

Thanks to high shutter speeds you can capture the action of fast-moving subjects perfectly, whether that be sports or wildlife.

i didn't plan to end up with both 35-100s but I find em both very useful (in different roles) and compact for what they are, the slow one is my default choice on the GM1 when I venture out with two bodies (usually to complement an UWA on the OM-D). For travel purposes I don't often NEED to go beyond 100mm, and it's lightness and compactness make it a great travel lens.
