OK, I’m going to share the re-usable bags I’ve used recently because so many people asked BUT… I do NOT love them. Canned diced pineapple chunks – you could try using fresh pineapple but you might need to add in a bit of extra pineapple juice. A ‘dump bag’ might not sound the most appealing, but it can save hours of prep for your next meal. Here’s how to prepare one – and two meals to make from the One Handed Cooks I started to research how I could ensure we had a hearty meal each night. And it turns out that ‘dump bags’ are a popular way for families to ensure they’re prepared for the week ahead. The concept was new to me, but it turns out that there are are numerous Facebook groups dedicated to them. One has over 16,000 members that have collectively contributed hundreds of dump bag ideas, containing all sorts of ingredients. I get the hype, these bags are good and when it comes to eating well in the week, for me and my family, dump bags are the answer.

However, you won’t actually be doing any real cooking – you’ll just be preparing foods to be cooked later on. Dump bags are cost effective and they help me to cut down on fresh food waste. I only buy the ingredients I need and they’re in the freezer before they have time to go off or spoil. Also, it’s as if we’re eating the food on the day we cooked it, as our dump bag meals always taste fresh. I would recommend that you write a list of all your dump bags though and display it somewhere, as it is easy to forget what you’ve made! Remove your dump bag or leftovers from your freezer and place them in the fridge the day before you plan to cook them, at a temperature lower than 5C. Ensure the contents have fully defrosted before cooking. If you’re going to start using dump or freezer bags as a way to use your slow cooker, here are a few tips to make the process painless and easy. 1. Get decent freezer bags For things like potatoes and pasta, just cook them fresh 20 minutes or so before your slow cooked meal is ready. 5. Batch cookFruits and veggies can be prepared and cooked from a frozen state, while raw meat should always be thoroughly defrosted before cooking.

Using a slow cooker is as convenient as cooking can be, but you can make it even more convenient by using dump bags. One of our favourite ways of utilising our precious time is to make a meal fresh and prep a freezer bag of uncooked ingredients at the same time. Instead. divide the ingredients between some quality freezer bags and – BAM – you’ve got dinner prepped for the following week.For example, if I was making up a Bolognese dump bag for the slow cooker, I’d add mince, frozen onions, frozen mushrooms, tomatoes and any seasoning to the bag. I’d then put it in the deep freeze. And the night before I wanted the meal, I’d take it out of the freezer. Then, the next morning, I’d put it into the slow cooker and switch it on. When I got home, I’d just have to cook pasta and hey presto, there’d be a healthy meal ready to eat.
