About this deal

There’s plenty to look at and read, even on this small section. One of the most prominent features still intact is the East Buxton Lime Kiln, which was in use until 1944. A few of these steps were slightly underwater so I can imagine on a rainy day you’d definitely get wet feet! Here’s the perfect Lud’s Church walk for a morning, afternoon or evening adventure in the Peak District.This 6-mile route includes the popular hidden gem Lud’s Church, (a chasm not an actual church)it also has beautiful views towards the Roaches, then on to the Hanging Stone before exploring woodlands and looping down alongside the River Dane. After 300 m you’ll reach a fingerpost sign, turn right here, signposted ‘The Ridge’ and follow the footpath uphill. At the top, there’s another signpost, turn right here (signposted Danebridge) and go through the small gate. The footpath continues along the top of the ridge with beautiful views and you can look behind you towards The Roaches. Signpost on the Ridge

You’ll immediately notice more people from the quiet paths you were previously on. But of course, it’s lovely to say hi to fellow walkers. More Walks in the Peak District Bear left, then immediately right leaving the road at a stile. Go ahead, crossing a small brook, then bear half left to a stile. Go half left to cross another ditch, then follow the hedge on the right to the road. Bear right uphill for 250 metres to a stile on the left. Go ahead from the stile, descend crossing a brook, then climb slightly right before bearing left to enter Parwich. Go past the church, then left at a green, to the village pond. Well, I managed not to get lost, so that’s the benchmark! Following the boardwalk along the River Wye

You can visit Thor’s cave on a walk from nearby Wetton – this 5-mile route is perfect to explore the cave and Manifold Valley. All the walk details are included, plus you can visit a second cave on this walk too! Dove Holes Cave, Dovedale Dove Holes Cave Switch to: OpenStreetMap - global, free, volunteer created maps. We use the OpenTopo map tile server. Go through another small gate and head downhill to where it joins another path. Turn left here (signposted Swythamley – photo above), after about 50 m there are stone steps over a drystone wall (signposted Concession Path + Hanging Stone). Follow the path, over a second smaller set of stone steps, to reach the Hanging Stone. Hanging Stone Stage 3 – Hanging Stone toDanebridge At the edge of the trees, go over the next wooden stile and continue downhill through the woods. In springtime, it’s full of bluebells and looks gorgeous. Continue on the path, across the small bridge, as the path splits, keep on the right-hand fork which continues down via some steps to reach the River Dane. In fact, I’ve since found out that I spotted a mating couple, as one of the newts have a wavy crest on his body which only occurs on males during mating season.

The cave location is below Cratcliffe Crags, next to Robin Hood’s Stride and makes a great circular walk from Elton – you can do as a short walk or extend to include Bradford Dale too. On route up to the cave, you’ll go under this cool archway, perfect for photos and admiring the view down of Dovedale. From Dovedale stepping stones it’s about 1.5 km to the path leading to the cave. Walk along the path and after Lover’s Leap, where the path ascends then descends to a viewpoint it’s about 700 metres (approx 10 minutes walk). At the start of Wolfscote Dale, instead of walking along the path by the River Dove take the uphill path which leads straight to the cave. There’s also a second cave just around the corner, I missed this out on my first visit so it’s on my list to explore. (Let me know what it’s like if you visit). If you look to your right you can see one of the tunnels on the trail (if you have spare time then I’d recommend going inside, just for fun) Both these walks also go past another secret cave in the Peak District, keep reading and I’ll tell you where to find it! Wolfscote Dale cave near Hartington Cave on Wolfscote Dale Go across the footbridge, then on your left look for a gap in the wall, signposted Gradbach Mill (photo above). Go through here and continue on the low-level footpath that’s following the River Dane. You’ll go through another gap in the wall and along the footpath to a gate and down some steps to bring you out at Gradbach Mill. Gradbach Mill next to the River DaneFrom Wyedale car park, simply follow the signs to the Monsal Trail, you can’t really go wrong, as the road is in the other direction! The first larger cave was pretty impressive and I was pleasantly surprised when I went inside – I won’t spoil the surprise. But the second cave had a few treats too, in the photo the second smaller cave is to the left of the main one and this is fantastic to explore too. Love the walks in the White Peaks?
