About this deal

I came away feeling like this portion of the story felt very surface level. I wanted it to go deeper. This could be me just being hurt that it has come to an end, however. Jude begs the earth to uncurse Cardan. “‘Please,’ I say to the dirt floor of the brugh, to the earth itself. ‘I will do whatever you want. I will give up the crown. I will make any bargain. Just please fix him. Help me break the curse.’”

Then it was time for Madoc and his army of traitors to arrive and he was really surprised to find out that Jude was alive and even more so when he found out that she had become the high queen of faerie.Okay so YES this finale was great, though definitely not as good as the first two. I forgot how much this world and Jude—I originally said these characters but like. it’s mostly Jude—lived in my mind rent free. What has Jude, in all three books, been fighting for?…She began with the goal to prove others she has what it takes to survive the fae worldbut as each book unfolded, we could see Judes heart: justice for the oppressed, to keep evil at bay, to eventually put a fair ruler on the throne/or be a fair ruler, etc. Shes merciful, often giving characters second chances, forgiving those who are remorseful, who would normally be cut down in cold blood for their past sins. Though she fights well, its never for the sake of cruelty itself, but for some better end, to fight off the darkest, bloodiest forces scrambling for power, to do what is best for all. This is Jude. This is what we know of her: justice, fairness and kindness toward the oppressed beings in the fae world (human slaves, and other fae servants), forgiveness for those who mess up and are sorry for it, all good things….she fits the savior mold quite well, doesnt she? That doesnt mean this book isnt without its problems and I have a feeling its going to be a fairly polarising finale not because of its ending or anything, but because of the way we get to that ending. Like the other books in this trilogy, The Queen of Nothing moves along at quite a fast pace and there are plenty of moments that could have been drawn out or questions that could have been answered. That arrangement lasted until Prince Cardan was able to crawl. By then, the cat was heavy with a new litter and he’d begun to pull at her tail. She fled to the stables, abandoning him, too. Heather, Vivi’s girlfriend, texts her about her time in Faeire, saying, “I want to forget Faerie. I want to forget that you and Oak aren’t human. I don’t want to feel like this anymore. If I asked you to make me forget, would you?”

Moments later, a terrible explosion is heard and Madoc soldiers enter and capture Jude, thinking she is Taryn. Madoc soon appears and wraps his arm around her waist, as the girl collapses. Lady Asha departed with her head high, her grip on the child tighter. Baphen felt a shiver of some premonition that had nothing to do with stars. Jude, just hear me out." She walks in front of me, causing me to have to look at her. I glance up and then start to circle around the billowing skirts of her dress. Thats probably hard to believe in The Cruel Prince, when he and his friends are so darn mean, but Jude straight-up murders people throughout this series (and its awesome) whereas a lot of Cardans behaviour is a kind of armour hes had to build up because of the world and family hes been born into. I find him really interesting he reminds me a little of Baz from Carry On, whos also a secret soft mess under his layers of venom and I enjoyed all of his scenes a lot. Right away, I want to say that this was an amazing series, one I did not believe I would enjoy as much as I did. And I believe I will re-read it one day. But that said I had some issues with the finale.

The screen door bangs. Then Taryn rushes in front of me, her gown blowing in the morning breeze. If I didn’t know what a real princess of Faerie looked like, I might think she resembled one. For a moment, it seems impossible that we’re related, no less identical.

I don’t speak. I just keep walking. I am not even sure where I am going, as slow and stiff and sore as I am. Maybe to Bryern. He’ll find me a place to crash, even if I won’t like the price later. Even bunking with Grima Mog would be better than this. Lady Asha, as the mother of a prince, found herself much in demand with the Court, if not the High King. Given to whimsy and frivolity, she wished to return to the merry life of a courtier. She couldn’t attend balls with an infant in tow, so she found a cat whose kittens were stillborn to act as his wet nurse. Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan's betrayal. She bides her time determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her twin sister, Taryn, whose life is in peril. Vivienne "Vivi" Duarte: Eva and Madoc's daughter; Justin's adopted daughter; Jude and Taryn's half-sister; Oak's adoptive sister; Heather's girlfriendI'll be honest, I feel like I didn't retain much of this story. Completely not the book's fault. I was just so anxious to know how it was going to turn out, I flew through it. And one last great aspect of the trilogy – the circularity of it. Everything ends in the same spot it started, and I’m not talking about a mental state but a physical one – the mortal world. With that, the circle is complete. And the trilogy – a success. Cardan summons Jude and pulls her into a small room. He shows her a message Balekin sent him asking to meet. Cardan is concerned that Jude is hiding things from him, and she admits to intercepting messages from Balekin. Jude asks Cardan to seduce Nicasia to get information from her. Cardan dislikes this idea and instead practices his wiles on Jude. Jude is effectively seduced by Cardan. As they kiss, Jude thinks about how, out of all the mean things he has done to her over the years, making her like him more is the worst one. This next section of my review is going to have SPOILERS! Please do not read on if you have not read The Queen of Nothing and all the rest of the books in this series! Also, like always, I’m going to do fangirl breakdowns because it warms my heart.

Jude brings Cardan to her rooms, the only place she is confident he will be safe. He asks her to kiss him. She hates that she wants to. Jude goes to the council meeting in Cardan's place. She tries to convince the council that Orlagh is planning to move against their kingdom. Madoc pulls Jude aside after the meeting and says he still cares about her despite the fact that she poisoned him. The Queen of Nothing (2019) is the third book of the series. It follows Jude and Cardan as they face not just Madoc who is hungry for the power and position of the throne, but also the extent of their love for each other. [6]Moments of this reminded me of...and this is the worst possible thing I can say about any book...A Court of Wings and Ruin. You know. A lot of people standing around talking to each other when war was supposed to happen. A shoved-together romance that a lot of people like for some reason. The only cool stuff lightly stolen from fairytales. Jude is held captive in a cell in the Undersea where Nicasia comes to assault and berate her. Jude is brought to eat dinner with Orlagh, and since she is not wearing any charms, Orlagh believes Jude can be ensorcelled to do whatever they command. Even though Jude is protected by Dain's geas, she acts like she is under their spell. Jude is questioned by Orlagh though is also able to learn some of their schemes. She learns that Grimsen is making a new crown to make Balekin king. At Cardan’s old house, there is a magical door “carved with an enormous and sinister face” that can speak. Hm... okay. I wanted more from Jude in this book. I thought her decisions were at times mediocre to bad, which is frustrating, because one of her defining character traits is that she's a great schemer. I liked that a lot of the areas where she fails were challenging distinct character traits, but I wanted a bit more of her succeeding as well. The Prologue recounts the birth of Cardan Greenbriar, and a prophecy made at his birth that he will be the last of Eldred's offspring and will be the destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne. The Royal Astrologer who makes this prediction also says that out of the boy's spilled blood can a great ruler rise, but only after the aforementioned prophecy comes to pass. As a result of this prophecy, Cardan is poorly treated and raised in squalor despite the fact that he is a Prince of Faerie.
