About this deal

Most fullframe 50s suffer from poor bokeh and you better stop them down to get descent looking out of focus areas. Although I did not do side by side comparison, I can safely testify that the sharpness level of the 25mm F1. It would be tremendous if it fits in my hands as it is much nicer to carry one of those around with a couple of lenses vs a big dslr.

Lens (SILVER) is a perfect standard prime lens, with 50mm equivalent focal length, offering best optical performance, fast aperture, with, beautiful bokeh and impressive close-focussing capability. For those not familiar with the m4/3 (Micro Four Thirds) system, the 25mm lens gives an equivalent of 50mm at a relatively fast aperture of f1.I was delighted to find though that this lens was going to be announced soon and Olympus UK kindly lent me the Olympus M. One way to create shallower depth of field, to compensate for the smaller sensor size, is to go nearer to your subject.

The images appear more convincing and real, similar to what we can see with a single eye vision (hence it is close to what our eyes see shooting through the traditional viewfinder when you can see through the viewfinder with just one eye). For me this is the fast and compact standard prime that was missing in the Micro Four Thirds lens lineup.There is a light amount of chromatic aberration seen at all apertures, but it's mostly only noticeable in the corners and only in areas of high contrast.

As focusing is performed internally the 46mm filter thread does not rotate, which makes this lens ideal for use with graduated and polarising filters.The colors and contrast delivered are so good and punchy that sometimes I don’t even do any post processing on the images. Robin, even if the Olympus is just as good as the Pana, I am definetily considering to switch just because of the size and weight advantages.

Married with the astonishingly great 5-axis stabiliser in the E-M1, this means that hand held extreme low light photography is very possible. It is the versatility of the focal length that truly made this lens stand out from many other prime lenses, and the 50mm lenses remain the most popular and highly recommended lens. It gives you that little extra bit of protection, which is always more than welcome when you’re out on a hike or in drizzly weather.It is also small enough to carry in a pocket and light enough to sling in your camera bag as a just in case you need it lens. I agree with the review done on this page, there are not many on the market relatively accessible and quality options. The normal prime lens space in the Micro 4/3 system has recently become a bit more crowded, as Olympus has finally released their fast normal prime lens, the 25mm f/1.
