About this deal

Moved hight of Bltouch mount (for dragonfly BMS), and printable spacer to lower it again for other hotend or CRtouch Motor position rotated by an additional 10 degrees for easier maintenance and assembly: Simplifying maintenance and assembly reduces downtime and enhances user-friendliness. Flipped drive gears – filament path closer to the extruder center for a more balanced design and perfect Orbiter, for us one of the most versatile due to its power, reliability, low weight and compatibility with machines given the amount of mods that we can find. By being able to use practically any hotend it gives us more versatility to the set.

Nov27: Added UNTESTED BMG mount that goes onto orbiter mounting holes. use M3x8 (use the v84 orbiter extruder version of the duct, or the v103 swappable probe version, as the mount will screw in place the orbiter) So let’s come from the beefy boys to the super lightweight extruders and start with the Orbiter 2.0 manufactured by LDO. The most obvious difference is that it uses an even smaller stepper motor, which has been becoming very popular even on other designs. The housing of the Orbiter is injection molded Glass Reinforced Nylon which makes it very stiff and feels super nice. It uses a planetary gearbox with a 7.5:1 reduction to drive the dual Bondech extrusion gears. The 690 steps per mm allow very precise dosing of material yet will need the motor to spin faster. Due to the popularity of the Orbiter, there is a huge ecosystem around it with tons of mounts for different printers and hotends. The extruder costs 69€ locally and weighs in at 152g yet requires a hotend with a heatsink which brings the system weight to 212g. But let’s see how much this small form factor extruder can push! The Orbiter had a very consistent extrusion force and was able to push 7.2 kilos at normal speeds and 6.8 kilos at 20 mm³/s. Both times the motor skipped showing how well the system is tuned. Just on a side note here - if you’re a tech geek and interested in extruder design, I highly recommend reading the story of the Orbiter 2, which details every design decision they made and is just pure gold! New smaller and better PTFE input coupler: The upgraded coupler improves the overall performance and reliability of the extruder. The adjustment is somewhat clumsy very rude, and especially handling the LGX Lite lever was hurting my fingers. On the LGX was surprised that out of the six levels only the first two are useful for rigid filaments. The tube for the Ender version is comparably long because it is designed for the rubber wheels which are quite high themselves and demand that distance so the motor can fit above. Friction, given that we normally have an extra distance between the extruder and the hotend, this has to travel through a PTFE tube that can offer some friction, in flexible filaments such as TPU printing becomes more complicated. Oozing or Stringing in our pieces (threads), in this system it is more complicated to control the flow of the filament in an agile way, creating complications to control this type of artifacts. One is not necessarily better than the other, just different. All printers (except Legacy) are capable of being fully enclosed to print ABS but can just as easily print PLA, PETG, or even Nylon. All printers in the Voron lineup are designed to use a Raspberry Pi linked to one or more motor controller board(s) to manage all of the printer functions and interface controls.
