About this deal

HRM-Pro features a small, lightweight heart rate monitoring module that is no wider than the width of the soft, comfortable strap. It’s very easy to use the clasp to get a fit that is right for you, and you can make it very big, or very small, so it will work well on younger athletes and more petite women. The monitor is housed in plastic, which will make you sweat in warmer weather. This is a good thing as this type of tech works better when your skin is damp.

Whether or not you find value in the Running Dynamics metrics is up to you. Personally, I don’t find much value there at this point. Years later, and I’m still not super clear what to do with the data. My coach finds some value in a handful of the metrics in terms of seeing some impacts of fatigue in a longer run. When it comes to outdoor GPS activity calibration, this will calibrate across numerous pace ranges, however, there are some smarts built-in, to ensure that the calibration isn’t coming from bad data, or non-representative data (such as trail runs where form/running style often differs). In particular, the following circumstance will pause outdoor GPS calibration of the HRM-PRO/HRM-PRO Plus: Every workout in the last 3 or so weeks I’ve done has been with the HRM-PRO, and all of them are all the same here. As you can see, now that we forced the calibration of the HRM-PRO Plus to match the treadmill, it trended higher. Which, did exactly what it’s supposed to do. It ended higher in distance than the treadmill, because the treadmill doesn’t properly account for speed ramping up/down in its reported figures, and it apparently takes longer to slow down than speed up. For me, the best uses of this strap are biking and Nordic skiing. Perhaps this is because there is less bouncing around when compared to running. The Polar H10 (or Polar H9) is probably the best, pure HRM chest strap but the battery life is unpredictable and that’s why I only use the H10 for waking HRV readings. However, triathletes or swimmers who love their special Garmin data and the ability to cache data, won’t get those features from Polar.

We aren't sure if anyone would buy the Peloton Heart Rate Band as a dedicated heart rate monitor for exercising (as in, not to use it with a Peloton), but it can be used as one. It hasn't got ANT+, but the band can connect to wearables via BLE. Sadly, it only really measures heart rate, unlike many other wearables in this guide, but if you need a comfortable external optical heart rate monitor to accompany your Garmin watch, you may as well consider the Peloton Heart Rate Band. Nonetheless, it’d seem slightly peculiar to have a full in-depth review of a chest strap and not include some aspect of heart rate accuracy or comparison testing. So, in this case I did exactly that. Again rather than taking these numbers too seriously I think you would be looking more at a power number and attaching that number to a perceived effort to see how they correlate. See, this strap in a box section was interesting and useful after all. In fact, there’s other nuggets in the manual too. I mean, nobody reads it, but in this rare scenario I actually opened it up and learned something from it. But that’d ruin the surprise for the next section. So…let’s move on. My advice would be to not buy Garmin HRM with irreplaceable straps and bad battery sealing designs, once the free warranty replacements dry up.For swimmers: I find the HRM-PRO perfectly acceptable as a swim watch both in the pool and in open water. My regular pool has reduced chlorine and yours might not in which case the HRM-SWIM is built for that environment and also comes with a non-slip strap. Personally, I find the HRM-Swim to be uncomfortable. If you can do a speedier flip turn than me (highly likely!) then the HRM-Pro can flip over. This problem is not universal. It appears to only be some device combinations. I only have one sample, but there are many Garmin forum posts complaining. I have a running mate that also had a reliability problem with the HRM-Pro and also changed to a Polar H10. To se změnilo po operaci.
