On an APS-C camera it sees angles of view similar to what a 114 ~ 324mm lens sees on a full-frame or 35mm camera. Here is are some full-frame shots at 200mm focused on a vertically-polarized phase lattice at 3 meters, with synthetic reference vegetation at 15 meters: ED: Magic Extra-low Dispersion glass for reduced secondary chromatic aberration (sharper pictures). The camera reads the effective lens speed (f/5.6 maximum instead of f/2.8) and actual focal length (140~400mm) with a 2x converter.

The RF 70-200/2.8 makes history as the smallest, lightest 70-200/2.8 ever made — and its optics, stabilization and autofocus are top of the line as well. If you're worrying about this lens' sharpness, you're probably not a seasoned full-time pro. This, and all Nikon's previous 80-200mm and 70-200mm lenses, have been the standards against which all other professional zooms have been judged for many, many decades. This original non-IS 70-200 is a sleeper of a lens. It's the lens to get for anyone on a budget shooting sports and action, or shooting on a tripod. Lens sharpness doesn't matter much, but it sure distracts amateurs who confuse lens sharpness with picture sharpness. The zoom ring can be moved with one fingertip, but it takes some effort. It works better with two fingers or your whole hand. The zoom feels as if it's working through a geartrain!I see four stops of real-world improvement, and not quite as good as on the EOS RP with no in-body stabilization. The 2.5m-∞ position prevents the lens from autofocusing closer than 2.5 meters (8 feet). Use this setting only if you're having a problem with the lens attempting to focus on irrelevant close items, or if for some reason the lens is "hunting" from near to far looking for distant subjects. VR ( Vibration Reduction) lets me hand-hold at almost any speed for when I need depth of field. No tripod needed! This new Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 E FL is the world's best 70-200mm lens because it's the sharpest, the best made, and most importantly, the lightest and closest-focusing f/2.8 70-200 ever made.
